Creative’s Wireless Dock For The …iPod

Posted January 19th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

One of Apple’s toughest competitor on the mp3 market, Creative is giving into the temptation of getting a piece of the revenue from the iPod accessories market with the new Xdock Wireless. Apparently the income generated from making an accessory for the direct competitor is more important than defending your own brand according to Creative and people might see this act as a capitulation in the war for the highest position on the multimedia devices market.

Letting the corporate policies aside, the Xdock wireless is a pretty interesting device. Basically the product provides a way for streaming the music, pictures and videos from your iPod to your sound and systems using a wireless connection to send data from the dock to a simple device that is connected to your speakers. The catch is that you need to buy at least a wireless receiver (the Creative X-Fi Wireless Receivers) to provide the link between the dock and the multimedia systems in your home.

If you are more conventional or you are reluctant to pay for the second device there is also the possibility to connect the video and audio inputs of your home entertainment system directly to the dock. A remote controller is shipped with the product and it makes it easier to control your iPod while it is streaming media and charging in trough the Xdock.

The Xdock has a price of $299 while the X-Fi Wireless Receivers is just $149 and they will be both available starting March 2007.
