USB 3.0 in pictures

Posted Thursday, January 10th, 2008 by Alex Ion

If it goes as planned the USB 3.0 standard will be sold in 2009. I know the wait is killing but the only thing that may help right now are some of an 3.0 connector, that the Engadget guys managed to get during CES 2008.

USB 3.0 connector

If you forgot or if you never knew, the 3.0 standard is supposed to bring speeds up to 4.8Gbps and a power efficiency technology that would cut off the power for every device that is not used. The story is going to be successful I am sure, but we have to wait and that sucks.

USB 3.0 to be Sold in 2009, The Story Goes On!

Posted Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

USB connectorI’m not sure how you feel about connectors because I know it’s a pretty common thing these days but think a little bit what would have happened if we wouldn’t have it. Would we still use serial and parallel cables to transfer a movie or some vacation ? I guess not since the speed is not the best.

It all started with 1.0 which was very easy to connect but lacked on speed. Then, 2.0 (which we use today) came to increase transfer rates to up to 480Mbps and though we may think that’s enough right now, HD movies development and bigger and bigger files will make it a nightmare to use.

This is where 3.0 comes into picture to continue the successful story of Universal Serial Bus connectors with speeds up to 10 times faster, hitting 4.8Gbps. It’s supposed to be available in stores in 2009, while we get some specs about it early 2008. Will the story go on? Will 3.0 be as successful as those before? What do you think?

USB Far Infra-Red Pad for Tired Geeks

Posted Monday, November 5th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Have you ever felt pain in your wrist when using the computer? I am sure about that. Every time I spend more than five hours in front of my computer I feel tired and sometimes my wrists hurt. To solve this problem a guy invented the powered pad for pain relief.

USB Far Infra-Red Pad

Yes, I am not mocking up here. This gadget uses the infrared light to relief tiredness, muscle strain or even pain. In fact it warms your wrist or muscle creating a relaxing sensation. You will feel something warm up to 40°C ~ 45°C, its manufacturer says. Nevertheless, the device should be used only after a doctor’s agreement. Its users must be careful because the effect can turn bad if the Far Infra-Red Pad is used more than 15 minutes.

This gadget has a fan already in my person. It isn’t too pricey (only $21.99) and seems very useful. I would try it right away.

This little one is pretty big for me to use for me to watch the Gladiator and feel like one. It sports 3 1.3 ports, 2.0 and Infolink function that will give you stock quotes and news updates from MSN. My office cries for such, but I should spare 4800 euros to buy one from Korea, because there’s where they have it now.
