The first energy efficiency standards for TVs in the USA have just been set by regulators in California. The California Energy Commission has come up with a set of standards that manufacturers in the state will have to adhere to if they want to sell TVs. They hope to lead the way for the rest of the country. Detractors came up with the usual complaints that this move will limit choice and make things harder for manufacturers and that many people will simply drive to the next state to buy their .

Apparently there are over 34 million TV sets sold in the USA every year and California buys over 10% of them. The energy commission are estimating that the TV accounts for as much as 10% of an average home’s energy usage so this move would make a significant power saving. The standards set state that a 42 inch TV must use less than 183 watts by 2011 and less than 116 watts by 2013.

Sony KDL40V3000 LCD TV

This is part of Sony’s Bravia range of TVs and for a reasonable price you can get a host of quality features which make this a good mid-range choice. It is 1080p so the resolution is very good at 1920×1080. The television comes with a built in digital freeview tuner so there’s no need for a separate box which is handy. It also has S Force Dolby Digital mock surround sound which emulates a 5.1 set-up without the extra speakers; however there is no real substitute for a decent surround sound set-up.

When it comes to watching movies this television is ideal and it includes a true cinema mode which runs at 24 frames per second to match movie footage correctly. The dynamic contrast goes up to 16000:1 and the color depth is good. You get all the usual inputs including 3 , 2 scart and a PC connection. At just over $1000 this is a good television for the money.

is targeting the young with their new Flavors TVs line. First to get them are the Italians who were also first at the grand presentation where these little things were announced. There will be 22-, 32- and 42-inch models, all packing a really interesting feature; each has two interchangeable frames that stick to the big thing because of the “magnetism”.

The 42-inch LCD sports a 1080p panel, 30,000:1 contrast ratio, 5-millisecond response time, 500 cd/m2 brightness and a pair of ports. Just how cool is this. It mixes good taste with great performances to make everyone happy.

If you think you’ll change furniture in the next couple of years and you want to keep the , then you may want to order a few more frames with the desired colors that match the couch or the carpet. I’m sure your geek girlfriends will like them … so if you plan on buying here’s how much you’ll have to spend : €549 ($803) for the 22-inch, €799 ($1,168) for the 32-inch and €1,199 ($1,754) for the 42-inch.

Armani-Samsung LCD TV

Not exactly the partnership I was expecting but it was unveiled in Milan these days and we need to keep you informed. Giorgio and Electronics teamed up to create a 46-inch 100Hz . Except for the “stylish” control and the 4-modes power switch that changes the light of the logos, there’s nothing that relates to fashion and I can’t find special elements.

Technology advances when it comes to monitors and this time delivered something great. is a 52-inch display that has which is supposed to offer better brightness than what we had a few years before.
This little one is pretty big for me to use for me to watch the Gladiator and feel like one. It sports 3 1.3 ports, 2.0 and Infolink function that will give you stock quotes and news updates from MSN. My office cries for such, but I should spare 4800 euros to buy one from , because there’s where they have it now.
