Armani-Samsung LCD TV

Armani-Samsung LCD TV

Not exactly the partnership I was expecting but it was unveiled in Milan these days and we need to keep you informed. Giorgio Armani and Samsung Electronics teamed up to create a 46-inch 100Hz full HD LCD display. Except for the “stylish” remote control and the 4-modes power switch that changes the light of the logos, there’s nothing that relates to fashion and I can’t find special elements.

Samsung launched bacteria-killing air conditioners

Posted Friday, February 29th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Where I live the summers are really hot and I’m talking like 105 Fahrenheit (40+ Celsius) or sometimes even higher, therefore an air conditioning system is very much needed. Since I plan to install one at the office I had to look around and I found out that Samsung is selling some interesting bacteria killing air conditioners that use Micro Plasma Ion (MPI) technology.

Samsung Vivace Shadow Mirror

Developed by Samsung, the MPI technology claims to be able to kill up to 78 percent fungus and 58 percent bacteria in only 30 minutes. Along with the MPI technology the new air conditioners also use a carbon deodorizer that removes bad smell, a Silver Nano evaporator and a Catechin filter made of green tea (?) extract.

There will be two versions. One Samsung Vivace Shadow Mirror which is already selling in Singapore with a condenser but no installation for S$799 to S$899 ($572 to $643) while the other is Samsung Neo-Forte that will be unveiled in April and is cheaper.

Posted Thursday, February 28th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Samsung have just announced their 3D-ready PDP plasmas to the Korean market, today.

Samsung 3d Plasma Cannes 450

Samsung PAVV Cannes 450 is the name, has 3D content support, comes in two sizes, both 42 and 50-inches with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and should work just fine with 3D glasses or high performance 3D software. It uses Cell Light Control, 2008 Daylight technology and a DNIe+ chipset and will have three entertainment modes : games, movies and sports. The prices are $1,850 for the 42-inch version and $2,656 for the 50-inch version.

There is also a HD version, dubbed Cannes 550 and should be sold for $4,145.

Electronic Arts is going to provide the 3D content.

Samsung may have the 250GB SSD by 2008

Posted Monday, February 25th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Samsung 1.8-inch 64GB SSDSamsung is going to push hard to bring the 250GB SSD by the end of 2008, said flash memory marketing chief Michael Yang. They are already producing the 128GB version that should start shipping in the third quarter of the year while the 64GB SSD is already packed ultra-thin notebooks such as Lenovo ThinkPad X300 or Apple’s MacBook Air.

The new drive is going to use MLC technology (multi level cell) which is slower than the SLC (simple level cell) drive but reduces cost because it stacks more data on the same cell. However, there is no official word on using Parallel ATA like we have in the MacBook Air or they will upgrade to Serial ATA connectors.

Yang also mentioned the fact that they may start working on new dimensions (smaller of course) to make even thinner laptops. So far companies developed on the 1.8 or 2.5-inch platforms.

Samsung Prepares the 128 GB Flash Memory Card

Posted Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

This news thrilled me, because even my laptop’s hard drive has only 80GB. But technology never stops. Samsung announced an advanced process to pack the maximum of 16 of the multi level cells just 30 nanometers. That means they are able to deliver 64 gigabits of flash memory onto one chip. The process was called self-aligned double patterning technology (SaDPT).

By using the process described above, Samsung can produce 128 GB NAND memory card. Consequently, the price for memory cards will drop, which is a good thing for the consumers. Also, the high storage cards could replace the traditional hard disks being more efficient. But we have to wait till the technology will be released, perhaps in 2009.
