Sony NAS-E35HD Hi-Fi

Posted Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 by simon

Sony are calling this system with a built in hard drive a Gigajuke player. You can rip music onto the 80GB hard drive from virtually any audio source and the system also includes a CD player and digital radio tuner. You will also get an iPod dock and high speed ripping for a wide variety of formats including MP3, Windows Media Audio, AAC, Linear PCM or ATRAC. The CD player will play CD-Rs and CD-RWs which is handy.

The system has a USB, analogue and DM ports as well as a headphones socket. It offers 60W of power with two and includes a subwoofer. There’s also a bass boost function and a remote control for easy use. This may not be the best system on the market but it is relatively cheap at just over $300. It also looks small and stylish as you’ve come to expect from Sony.

Philips WACS7500 Wireless Music Center

Undeniably sexy looking this is basically a modern version of a system. HI-FIs have struggled since music went online and they have had to reinvent themselves in order to keep up with the changing technology. This is another release in Philips Streamium line and it plays music from an internal hard drive with the capability to transmit to other stations in your home (it comes with one but up to five can be added). The center can play music from CD, MP3’s from the 80 GB hard drive, FM or internet radio, you can also plug in a USB memory device or dock your iPod.

There are reasonable quality flat , an LCD display, remote controls and the usual range of features you might expect. You can connect using ethernet or Wi-Fi and wirelessly capturing your music collection from your PC is an option although it will take a while. Considering it costs over $800 (with additional stations at $199 each) you may wonder if you really need one.
