AOL and Haier’s Smartscreen Media Device (linux based)
Posted January 13th, 2007 by Alex Ion

AOL have disclosed that they are working with Haier into making a new portable media player that will play both music and videos. It would have a 30GB had drive that would play MPEG-4 and WMV videos, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11g connectivity which would in fact help you download paid music or listen to internet radios.
Apparently the design is made by the acquired AOL company, WildSeed so I guess they are responsible for the metal box design, sized as an iPod. Not sure if you remember what and who is WildSeed. About 5 years ago they had the idea of a Linux based phone that had great customization abilities. The phone has a text-based interface that is easy to use and you navigate with your finger on the touchpad below the screen.
Will be released in the third quarter of 2007 and no price tags have yet been announced.
