ScanSnap S300 portable ADF scanner from Fujitsu

Posted August 13th, 2008 by Alex Ion

There’s a new portable scanning solution from Fujitsu. Dubbed ScanSnap S300, it’s supposedly the “world’s smallest color ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner” that only measures 11.2 x 3.7 x 3.0 inches and weighs 3.1 lbs, fitting nicely in a laptop bag or a briefcase.

It’s definitely intended to business professionals that need a solution when traveling or on-the-go.

The new ScanSnap S300 is also has the fastest “one-touch” conversion (from paper into searchable PDF files) doing 8 pages per minute if it’s single-sided pages or 17 images per minute for double-sided documents.

Other than that, the special scanning options include business cards, some page-detection options and the fact that it’s capable of doing 600dpi scans.

It works on AC, but also via USB which is supposedly scanning at half speed (which isn’t bad at all).

The MSRP price after launch (last November) was $300, but you can find it online for cheaper. Amazon for example, has it up for sale at $260. My suggestion is to read a couple of photo scanner reviews if you really want to get yours.
