Optimus LED Keyboard is Shipping

For those of you that pre-ordered the Optimus LED keyboard last year or actually nine months ago in May 2007 for the staggering price of $1,564 there’s good news.

Art Lebedev announced yesterday on their project blog that the company is already shipping Optimus keyboards but not for customers that wanted the version with passive keys. They are getting “excuses and apologies” right now while the keyboard will be delivered in about a month. They are also announcing the first version of the Optimus Configurator software for Mac and PC that is already available for download.
For those that don’t know Optimus Maximus has a standalone LED in every of those 113 keys that can be programmed for various functions. The keys are 10.1 x 10.1 mm big and on a 48 x 48 pixel resolution with up to 65,356 colors you can display images or even play videos (10 fps) with viewing angles of max 160 degrees.
