The USBCell

Posted January 4th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

The USBCell is a new type of batteries that can be recharged simply by plugging them in a conventional USB port at your computer, laptop or even your next gen console. So the next time you leave home there is no need to pack the charger with you if you know you can have access to an USB port.

The USBCell comes in three different flavors: 1.5 V battery, 9V battery or even as a special pack available for different types of cellphones and other electrically driven accessories. All this NiMH batteries can be recharged with a regular charger too, but I don’t know who will use this feature as in this day and age the USB port is way more common.

For the USB charging each one of this batteries has a built-in charger that controls the current and voltage during the whole process. Another positive aspect of using the USBCell is that the charging period is smaller when compared to what it is achieved using regular chargers: for example in the case of 1.5V AA 1300 mAh batteries a full charge (more than 90% of the total capacity) should take 5 hours or less compared to the 7 hours it would when using a regular charger.

The price for this is not very high so I am thinking of maybe buying a couple of this batteries and If I managed to arise your interest I think you may want to check the web page of the producer of the USBCell by following this link.
