SharpSharp announced today, that the company is developing advanced LCDs for the mobile phones. The aim is to obtain sharper moving images as the video streaming services are getting more and more used. The digital broadcasting and the new generation of mobiles are demanding finer images. Due to this, Sharp tries to produce new LCD panels able to compete with the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays.

The OLED displays can cost three times more than the conventional LCD panels. Sharp said that the manufacturing costs for the new panels won’t be over 130 percents from the conventional ones. The new LCDs will have a response speed three times higher and biggest contrast ratios than the conventional panels used today.

Sharp is planning to ship the first advanced LCDs by the end of the year. The expected value of the sales is around 1 billion Yens up to March 2009. - MIHNEA BOIANGIU
