Play the Latest Games on an Old PC with Gaikai

Games industry veteran Dave Perry is backing his Gaikai service to beat OnLive when it comes to providing a streaming games service. The basic idea is that gamers can access the latest games without having to purchase or install the games, with no patches or updates required and play them on any machine. All you’ll really need is a decent internet connection because the games will be pre-installed on the latest hardware at a remote location and you will be accessing them via the web.
He recently demoed the service playing MMO’s World of Warcraft and Eve Online as well as Mario Kart 64 and Spore on a rubbish computer in a normal Firefox web browser. He claims the service can work on existing internet connections anything over 1MB. It doesn’t look perfect but it clearly works and eliminating the need for expensive hardware and the time wasted installing and updating has obvious potential. You can check out the demo at Play.tm
