Cloud Gaming on Mobiles

You’ve probably heard of cloud gaming. There are a couple of services working on it right now and the basic idea is that you’ll be able to play the latest games on an old machine because you won’t have it installed locally, instead you’ll connect to a remote high end machine or console and play the game across the web. One of the services is called OnLive and they have already shown off the technology working so you could connect to the service and play the latest FPS with all the bells and whistles on your netbook or old PC.
The latest announcement from OnLive is that their service can work on mobile phones too. They demonstrated the service running on two iPhones and apparently you will be able to play games with friends or even spectate on their games. The service will also work across the platforms so you could be watching a buddy who is playing on his PC. They haven’t announced a release date yet and I suppose it remains to be seen how the mobile phone companies will react to the idea.
