Battle of the Robot Olympics
Posted November 11th, 2009 by simon

Humanoid robots have been coming on in leaps and bounds the last few years and such is the progress that there are now several major robot competition events. The RoboGames will take place in California in April next year and the Robot Olympics are to be held in the Chinese city of Harbin but the date is not yet set. There is also the Robot World Cup for soccer in June next year in Singapore.
The Chinese held Robot Olympics will see robots compete in 16 events. The rules state that the robots that enter must be humanoid with two arms and two legs and wheels have been banned altogether. Harbin is home to an Institute of Technology who designed a successful robot football team and they are hoping to drive more innovation with this new event. They are expecting around 100 universities from a round the world to take part. The strangest robot event on the calendar has to be the Roboexotica show designed for robots who can tend bar, mix cocktails and light cigarettes.
