An 8Ghz Intel P4

Posted January 22nd, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

It is not a new faster processor form Intel, but an achievement by the OC Team Italy working on a Pentium 4 631 processor. An ordinary fullmod Asus P5B motherboard was used to achieve the incredible frequency and the cooling of both the motherboard and the processor was done with liquid nitrogen.

With the attention being put on multi-core technology, the clock of the processor seemed to lose its importance for Intel’ and AMD’s research division. So this record might last for some times as the fastest frequency ever run by a processor, and it is a worthy achievement even if it has no practical application.
