$400 million free advertising for iPhone
Posted March 12th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu
That is the estimated amount of free advertising generated from announcement of the iPhone. A Harvard Business School professor, David Yoffie, explained that no company got so much attention for a product launch. The iPhone is the most expected product to be released. The unprecedented success of the iPhone is a result of the great marketing techniques used by Apple. Making innovative products with simple designs but with great performances is the main source publicity. The perfect example is the iPod which raised the company’s profits in the past three years. Today, iPods sales represent 50% from Apple revenue.

The secrecy around the iPhone has conducted to an avalanche of headlines and TV news. In fact everybody in the industry is talking about Apple’s iPhone. However, nowadays the media coverage is much larger than 15 years ago, so I think the estimation could be correct. Right now I am generating some free publicity for the iPhone, but I must admit that I just love this media player/mobile phone. We have nothing to do but to wait its launch in June this year.
