NTT DoCoMo’s “Raku-Raku PHONE Basic”

Posted March 6th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

A new clamshell to be part of the RAKU-RAKU handsets family was presented today by the Japanese mobile phone manufacturer as the “Basic” model. Featuring an elegant design the new 102 x 51 x 19.9 mm (4″x2″x0.8″) device weights less than 103 grams and will be available in white, black, pink and gold colors.

Being an entry level phone, the F883i Basic comes with very little features as it even lacks a digital camera. The mainNTT DoCoMo's display of device is a 2.4″ LCD with a resolution of 240×320 pixels at 260k colors, but there is also a smaller, secondary 1.2″ black and white screen with a resolution of 60×60 pixels.

Probably getting bored by the outcome of their work, the phone designers thought of adding some neat features and included a pedometer (a way to measure the distance traveled and burnt calories) and a “Slow Voice” function that slows the speed at which your caller is talking to make the conversation comprehensible. I don’t know yet how that works but I think it would be fun to play with, just like with old vinyl records and their’s “slow voice functions“.

Anyway, the new mobile phone device is set to launch on the market starting this very April.
