Dell Latitude ATG D620 review - Semi Rugged Notebook

Posted January 17th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Dell is trying to compete on the Toughbook territory with their new semi-rugged laptop, the new Latitude ATG D620. Powered by a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with the Intel Graphics Accelerator 950, 1GB of RAM but up to 4GB this is a very good option for the demanding customer that needs a Vista enviroment, stable and fast. However that’s not what makes you take the hat off in front of the ATG D620 T7200 but the fact that you’re looking at a tough soldier which can get the job done.

Dell Latitude ATG D620 reviewIt comes with a scratch resistant paint, a magnesium-alloy chassis and a shocked mounted hard-drive. The 14.1-inch shock mounted display is great, resisting 30% more than traditional LCDs. It’s 2.5 times brighter than the common D620 model and it features 1280 x 800 pixels resolutions. Some nice features worth mentioning are the rubber protected ports or jacks, such as USB, VGA or ethernet.

As DELL said it looks like customers requested no memory card slots for the new ATG D620 but rest assured that you can connect all sorts of devices for storage. As for the spill resistant keyboard you should know that night typing is solved by two red lights that would glow. Those that are looking for wireless connectivity should know that the Dell Wireless 5700 built-in EVDO mini-card would get you connected on the Verizon Wireless service.

LaptopMag’s review of the new Latitude ATG D620 have showed scores for some of the most important tests as follows. MobileMark: 251, 3DMark03: 1704, Battery Life : 5:51/6:03 (with WiFi on/off) and Wireless performance of 16.8Mbps/14.3Mbps (for 15/50 feet distances). Our final review is that for the price of about $3145 it seems to be a good option in the “military” notebooks.
