New XBox 360 To Be Released May 1st

Posted February 19th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Remember the rumors a few months ago when some pictures of what was thought to be a new XBox 360 were leaked to the media? There was some anticipation but in time everything calmed down. Apparently rumors on the Zephyr (the codename for this version) seem to be more real as Softpedia is reporting some retailers have already confirmed the new gaming console is coming and they also gave a release date of May 1st.

Xbox 360 Zephyr improved VersionAccording to them the Zephyr will come with a 120 GB hard drive and the much anticipated HDMI connector that is supposed to transform the console in a real contender for the PS3 on the home entertainment market as well. Even if the price for this new Xbox 360 is supposed to reach $479.99 (greater than the current version), it is still under the PS3 and from the consumers point of view there will be no major difference between the two rival gaming consoles. You will argue that the Blu-ray drive is the real advantage for the PlayStation 3, but please consider how many of the PS3 potential buyers actually won’t settle only for DVD’s when the price difference is so big and there is not yet a winner for the next generation DVD war.

Anyway these are still only rumors just like the news of Xbox 360 price cuts were. Until we will have the actual product on the market we can only speculate so let’s better wait a few more months to actually see what Microsoft is preparing.
