HP Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner review

Posted January 6th, 2007 by Alex Ion

A cheap scanner from HP guys with good specifications for the home user. It costs around $100 offering optical resolution of 4800 pixels per inch (ppi) making it very useful at scanning 35mm slides and film strips. Speed is not the best but quality is what it’s good at.

HP Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner

The Scanjet G3010 comes with Twain driver and WIA driver, helping you to scan from any Microsoft Windows program that includes scanning programs. On the other hand, there have been some issues when combining scanner’s software with another one for example the HP’s Photosmart Premier software.

The biggest advantage of the new HP Scanjet G3010 is not for slides, film or documents, but for scanning photographic prints. It’s great for amateur photographers. When it comes to scanning other things, we can point some disadvantages like being limited to two 35mm slides or two frames of 35mm film at a time. Another disadvantage I should mention is that the scanner is in fact slow: film scanning ranging from 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds, sliding scan about 2 minutes and negative frames up to 6 minutes.

Overall we have concluded that the Hp Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner is a good choice for home use with an emphasis on photos, combining good features for the $100 price.
