UPEK Eikon Fingerprint Reader : REVIEW

It looks like Gizmodo got their hands on the new Upek Eikon Fingerprint reader and they are really impressed. The most interesting thing is that it works fine with Firefox which is much better than what we got from Microsoft (it was just for logging in). Upek Eikon works both for IE and FF, really well, has a very smart sensor so that you don’t clean it with warm watter every few days and I must tell you it works just fine both in XP and Vista. No Mac so far!

After installing and setting up, get to work with it. The recognition rate is pretty good but don’t swipe your finger on the sensor, too fast, because you will confuse it. You need to give it time to get acquainted with their phrasings. For example “replay your registration” which means that it will use your pre-set login and password.

The price of $39 is pretty cheap I think and the product really does the job done well.

I don’t like swiping fingerprint readers. Their recognition rate is lower than optical readers, and most of them become hot after some time causing discomfort to the user. If the problem is Firefox support, FingerAuth ( http://www.fingerauth.com ) solved my problem with the Microsoft fingerprint reader.
