The Vulcania watch - the story became reality

Posted March 18th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The Vulcania watch is not a regular one. The concept was created by the designer Fabrice Gonet for the HD3 Complication manufacturer. The Vulcania was inspired by Jules Verne’s novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. In the novel Vulcania was Captain Nemo’s fictional home.

The technology and its design are impressive. This watch captured my attention as I saw it. Gornet has designed the Vulcania in a 3-dimensional view, separating each gauge as a tribute to vintage naval technology.

This special watch is made of titanium and platinum. I mean its case, because the front and rear panel are made of sapphire. Thus you can see the mechanism of the watch and how it works. This is a limited model, because only 11 timepieces were produced. So, don’t expect to get one very soon.
