GadgetTrack Recovers Your Stolen Gadgets
Posted March 20th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu
GadgetTrack is a system meant at helping you recover lost or stolen electronic devices. First of all you need to install a special software on the device you want to protect, software that will send identification information to a server. If your item is stolen or is lost you will simply have to report it to the Gadget Track server and it will search for your product. When it properly identifies a stolen product the server collects all the information from the system it is connected too so you can get a location or more.
Anyway you must have figured out that not all electronic devices are supported, but only devices with flash based memory on them, like flash drives, digital cameras, SD memory cards, and MP3 players (iPods). However the person who is using your device will need to have an Internet connection for this to work. Firewalls might be a problem as they can block the device from calling the Gadget Track server, but the developers are working on that.

All in all this seem like a pretty nice idea I think that might just increase the number of stolen devices that return to their rightful owner but there is still improvement needed in my opinion. By the way the $12 fee for “protecting” up to 5 devices for a year is a real bargain when considering that you might loose several times more than that.
