Three New Intel quad-cores chips launching on Monday
Posted January 6th, 2007 by Alex Ion
Dual core processors are no longer fashion, because quad core processors are taking market share. With CES 2007 starting, Intel is not going to sit, and is going to launch three more chips on Monday, all of them on the quad core architecture: two Xeons for lower end servers and one for desktop computers.
Called Core 2 Quad 6600, the new desktop processor will run at 2.4Ghz with a front-side bus at 1066Mhz and will join Core 2 Extreme QX6700 model that is already a winner for Intel. The two server chips are Xeon 3210 at 2.13Ghz and Xeon 3220 at 2.4Ghz with 8Mb cache and 1066 front-side bus, and both are designed for single processor servers.
So special about the quad core processors is that they combine two dual core chips in the same slice of silicon. This makes Intel the king of the processors once again, until AMD will launch their under development Barcelona chipsets with four cores. That will not arrive before midway 2007.
We wait them for reviews as soon as possible. Want to comment ?
