Hitachi announced today that the Q1 of 2007 will bring the first 1Tb hard drive to hit the shelves of computer stores. Branded with the name Deskstar 7K1000 the new 7200 rpm SATA drive will double the current top buffer sizes reaching a staggering 32 MB data buffer.

For those of you who are interested in maximizing the storage capacity of their computers, the good news is yet to come and the price is the topic at hand. According to the announcement this product comes with a $399 price tag which makes it cheaper than a two 500GB drives solution (the biggest drive size momentarily available) and a 750 GB version will be available as well.
On a side note, the research labs of another HDD producer (Seagate) announced 300TB 3.5″ drives to be available in a matters of years as the process of moving from parallel to perpendicular storing is proving to make good progress.
