The world’s biggest HDTV - 110 inches

Posted Friday, June 8th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

JVC’s 110 inches HDTV is available now. It is the biggest HDTV in the world. When I say biggest, you need to think at its size, but also at its weight. The big monster has 728-pounds and 110″. Thus you should think for a new living.

The TV features multiple inputs including HDMI, Component, D4, S-Video and a D-sub15 pin socket for your PC. It offers 1920 x 1080 resolution and 5000:1 contrast. The customers can order the JVC TV starting from July, but the delivery will be in October. Also they should consider the price which I could say it’s outstanding - $53,000.

3 Year Old Breaks a Plasma After Losing at Wii Sports

Posted Friday, May 25th, 2007 by Alex Ion

To the right, Adam McConnell, three years old. To the left, a broken 42-inch plasma. The joy of breaking the TV after losing at Wii sports, priceless.

Adam McConnell smashes plasma after losing Wii Sport

This is a real case. 3 year old Adam, smashed his father’s plasma while his dad went to the kitchen to get him something to drink. It should be really fun to hear “two big bangs”. Why he did this? Because he lost a tennis game playing Wii Sports. It wasn’t a slipping Wiimote so no reason for a lawsuit here, just the boy’s rage.

Now that really makes me think what was the little boy drinking? Maybe whiskey in the morning and some vodka in the evening? He’s now banned from playing Wii, for two weeks.

“I left him playing the tennis game and went to the kitchen to get him a drink. Then I heard two big bangs. When I ran back in Adam was using the handset to smash the TV screen. It was a 42in plasma screen which cost around £1,000 - the whole front is wrecked.

I think he lost a game and he just cracked up. I went out to the table and put my head in my hands, while I thought about how I could explain to a three- and-a-half year old what he had done wrong. I ended up asking him how he’d feel if I broke his Spiderman.

He is so independent and he already has a real competitive streak, but I didn’t realize he would lose his temper like that. He could be the next John McEnroe - he had a great swing.”

Safety Shield - Protecting Your TV

Posted Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Safety Shield Protector For TVs

I know myself with a bad temper, because it happened not once, but twice to break a chair watching UEFA Champions League when my local soccer team played. The chair got the pressure so that I don’t throw anything towards the TV. Imagine how I felt when I saw that they have TVs screen protectors for those expensive large plasmas or LCDs.

I am also thinking of those Nintendo Wii players that often lose the controllers and break screens worth thousands of dollars, they would be happy with the protector, too! It’s called the Safety Shield and the manufacturers assure us to get 98% of the light through, which is almost un-noticeable to the eye. It will also be a way of reducing the UV rays, cool.

The price is not yet disclosed by the Taiwanese manufacturer LCDArm, and it will be produced in configurations from 30-inch to 46-inch. I am politely asking these guys to make it available internationally much faster, because the new soccer season is about to start in a few months and I need it! - ALEX ION

Shipping a plasma/lcd : to use or not to use professionals?

Posted Monday, May 21st, 2007 by Alex Ion

How not to ship a plasma

I’ve been reading Geekologie and I was astonished. They have a set of pictures with a plasma or an lcd being delivered by professionals and there is nothing I can say, but the fact that I hope the package was insured.

Wonder if he had a personal vendetta with the plasma inside the cardboard and if he used what he had inside the van to smash it in small pieces! From I can see this is a Samsung but I am not sure about the model : LNR409D? What do you guys think? - ALEX ION

Sony HD OLED 9mm-thick Displays are Live

Posted Thursday, April 12th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Sony HD OLED 9mm display

Sony is trying to kill their competitors and maybe some of us that sit here and slobber when seeing the pictures with the new OLED displays being demonstrated this week during the Display 2007 Expo from Japan. They are really unmannered, or like Gizmodo is calling them, really obscene, if you think that the 9mm thick displays, offer 1080p resolutions with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratios. They also have something even thinner, the 3mm thick which is not High Def, capping out at 1,024×600.

OLED displays have a few things in front of LCD displays and they are less power consumption and much brighter imaging. I am waiting to see more on the market about the OLED displays because I think we have a new turn in the market.

Samsung SyncMaster 275T will launch in Korea

Posted Wednesday, April 11th, 2007 by Alex Ion

There aren’t much things that can be said about the new launch Samsung will have in Korea for the SyncMaster 275T. It’s 27-inch wide monitor that supports resolutions up to 1920×1200 and contrast ratios of 3000:1. The target audience - those using 24-inch monitors so far - are going to pay somewhere near $1450 to get it (1,340,000 KRW). There are other things you’re gonna get for that kind of money: four USB ports, S-Video inputs, detachable speaker and DVI that supports HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection). I wonder if I need a new desk now, to put a 27-inc monitor since I work on a small one.

Hitachi Wooo series HD TVs

Five new true 1080p models from Hitachi Japan will hit the market. It’s the Wooo line-up of HD TVs, the first in the world to support iVDR (Information Versatile Disk for Removable Usage) disks. The disks are portable hard drives with up to 250GB of space and the TVs have both analog and digital TV tuners to record your favorite sports game while watching soap opera with your lovely girlfriend.

I will tell you a little a little about two models we’ve heard of. The Hitachi Wooo 50-inch HD plasma P50-XR01 model has 1,100cd/m2 brightness with 10,000:1 contrast ratio while the 37-inch L37-XR01 HD plasma has 500cd/m2 and 7,000:1. Both have SD and MMC card readers, HDMI ports (3) and two D4. Hitachi will release the new full HD plasma TVs, in the Wooo series, from April 20 in Japan and the iVDR hard drives will cost $170 for the 80GB and $300 for the 160GB model.

Asus PG 221 is the monitor for serious gamers

Posted Friday, March 16th, 2007 by Alex Ion

For those serious gamers that need their monitor to have them all the new Asus PG 221 is the perfect solution. It has a 22-inch monitor with a built-in 2.1 audio system and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The new PG 221 monitor with 1000:1 contrast is extremely powerful and brings 1680 x 1050 resolutions, has 3 USB connectors and touch sensitive controls not to forget about the 300cd/m2 brightness. Don’t expect to much from the sound though, because it cannot compete with a real pack of speakers but we should stick to the fact that it’s a monitor and too many vibrations may harm.

Asus PG 221 has lots of inputs including S-Video, DVI, D-Sub and of course a microphone slot. I wonder how it would work with the new Asus Xonar D2X. No release date and no price tag yet.
