Dr. Bott T3 USB 2.0 hub

If you’re one of those that need a few USB ports to power up or connect all sorts of devices but you don’t have enough, I guess you need a hub. Maybe the Dr. Bott T3 USB 2.0 hub can help you with three ports for a mere $20. It has three LEDs that shows which ports are used and a fourth LED to tell you when the hub is powered. The Dr. Bott T3 USB 2.0 hub comes in silver and white and would look great with your MacBook Air.via Zdnet

Super-Slim USB Mouse

Posted Monday, March 24th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Super slim mouse

I am one of those people that want their mouse to be tiny and comfortable. It was hard for me to settle with a slim mouse but after a few days I knew it’s what I wanted for a long time. Anyway, enough with my experience. Here is a super-slim USB mouse that is only 0.94-inches wide with some weird features: the rear is the right click while the front is the left click. So unless you have sausages instead of fingers and your palm isn’t the size of a baseball pitcher glove, for $11 this could be a great mouse to take with you when you’re traveling.

Posted Thursday, February 21st, 2008 by Alex Ion

Gamers around the world with no budget for a SLI system should be happy to know that NVIDIA released a new line up of graphic cards and the first to be announced is NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT that offers the best performance for the $189 price it’s going to cost.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

GeForce 9600 GT is an upgraded version of the 8600 GT, that improves the core speed from 540MHz to 650MHz while the memory clock speed went up from 1.4 GHz to 1.8 GHz and doubles the onboard stream processors to 64. It will ship with 512MB of video memory and dual dual-link DVI video outputs and should be already available today.

This is a great solution for gamers that can’t spend that much on a graphic card.

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 and 7000

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000

I remember how we switched from ball-based mouse to the optical mouse and then the laser model. Today Microsoft managed to amaze me, once again, with their latest wireless laser mouse models, 6000 (left picture) and 7000 (right picture).

Microsoft WLM 6000 is more portable and has a 2.4GHz USB receiver while WLM 7000 is less portable mainly because it uses rechargeable batteries. Both “mice” use Microsoft’s HD Lasers and the latter comes with a horizontal charging dock in case your batteries run low. Oh, did I mention the Vista friendly buttons?

Prices are $50 for WLM 6000 and $70 for WLM 7000.

USB 3.0 in pictures

Posted Thursday, January 10th, 2008 by Alex Ion

If it goes as planned the USB 3.0 standard will be sold in 2009. I know the wait is killing but the only thing that may help right now are some pictures of an USB 3.0 connector, that the Engadget guys managed to get during CES 2008.

USB 3.0 connector

If you forgot or if you never knew, the USB 3.0 standard is supposed to bring speeds up to 4.8Gbps and a power efficiency technology that would cut off the power for every device that is not used. The story is going to be successful I am sure, but we have to wait and that sucks.

USB 3.0 to be Sold in 2009, The Story Goes On!

Posted Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

USB connectorI’m not sure how you feel about USB connectors because I know it’s a pretty common thing these days but think a little bit what would have happened if we wouldn’t have it. Would we still use serial and parallel cables to transfer a movie or some vacation pictures? I guess not since the speed is not the best.

It all started with USB 1.0 which was very easy to connect but lacked on speed. Then, USB 2.0 (which we use today) came to increase transfer rates to up to 480Mbps and though we may think that’s enough right now, HD movies development and bigger and bigger files will make it a nightmare to use.

This is where USB 3.0 comes into picture to continue the successful story of Universal Serial Bus connectors with speeds up to 10 times faster, hitting 4.8Gbps. It’s supposed to be available in stores in 2009, while we get some specs about it early 2008. Will the story go on? Will USB 3.0 be as successful as those before? What do you think?

Apple anti-Caps-Lock Campaign on Their New Keyboards?

Apple anti-Caps-Lock Campaign on Their New Keyboards?

Yesterday I’ve heard some nice Apple news, from Jonathan Rentzsch, that said the new metallic keyboards (he bought one) have something against Caps Lock. The first thing that came into my mind was that this would be a manufacturing problem so I started to read about it and I found out that lots of people have the same problem.

To make it clear, the new Apple keyboards are taking ages and require a good bear press on the button to turn Caps Lock on, and will only need a you blow air upon it, to turn off. The matter was confirmed by so many other consumers so that brought me to the idea of an anti-Caps-Lock campaign that Steve Jobs is doing. I wonder if people scream at the office!
I am not saying that Caps Lock is a good thing, but if you think that you get to pay $47 for the wired version of the keyboard, and $79 for the wireless, wouldn’t you want all your keys to work perfectly?
