Sony Ericsson W51s - The Clamshell Budget Phone Is Almost Here
Posted Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 by Alex Ion
It seems like for the last weeks Sony Ericsson launched a few mobile phones and leaked some news of future projects. They are launching a new clamshel, Sony Ericsson W51s, just simple. Everyone thinks that it looks very much like the PowerMac G5 but without the optical drive and the USB ports, but I will let other decide on this one and comment more on the specs. Featuring a 2megapixel camera on the back and 3 LED lights that would alert in case of calls or voicemail on the front (like the new Z310), it has 120MB built-in memory expandable thanks to a Memory Stick slot and a 2.7-inch display.
They’ve used a new approach with this new clamshell. Make it simple, to make it appealing. They’ve succeded. Release date is set for Spring on the Japanese KDDI network, and they don’t have an announced price yet.

For connectivity Sony-Ericsson included in the Z310a support for GPRS, infrared, Bluetooth and USB as well, the device being also capable of synchronizing with a PC. A suite of management applications is also included and the Z310a offers access to an email client, a calendar, a calculator and many more similar useful programs. Of course the device couldn’t lack a digital camera but the one included has only a 0.3 MP taking pictures at a VGA resolution of 640×480 so you will not be able tot capture the most beautiful images at the highest quality.

First we have a digital camera capable of taking pictures of up to 2MP with a digital zoom of 2.5x. “Nothing extraordinary” you might say, but hold on you haven’t heard everything as the really cool thing about this camera is the ability to send the pictures taken directly to your blog, without the need of a computer or anything else. Besides, you can also check the result by visiting your blog or check any other webpage with the included web browser. To cover all the multimedia features I have to mention the media player which allows you to enjoy video and audio clips on your personal mobile phone.
