Sony Ericsson W51s - The Clamshell Budget Phone Is Almost Here

Posted Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Sony Ericsson W51s

It seems like for the last weeks Sony Ericsson launched a few mobile phones and leaked some news of future projects. They are launching a new clamshel, Sony Ericsson W51s, just simple. Everyone thinks that it looks very much like the PowerMac G5 but without the optical drive and the USB ports, but I will let other decide on this one and comment more on the specs. Featuring a 2megapixel camera on the back and 3 LED lights that would alert in case of calls or voicemail on the front (like the new Z310), it has 120MB built-in memory expandable thanks to a Memory Stick slot and a 2.7-inch display.

They’ve used a new approach with this new clamshell. Make it simple, to make it appealing. They’ve succeded. Release date is set for Spring on the Japanese KDDI network, and they don’t have an announced price yet.

Sony-Ericsson To Release The Z310a Phone

Posted Thursday, February 1st, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

A new clamshell will soon be released by Sony-Ericsson as it has already got the FCC approval. The Z310a is not a smartphone, not even a mutimedia phone, it’s just a nice low-entry level beautifully designed phone. The true versatility of this mobile phone comes from its compatibility with almost any mobile telephony network as there is support for EDGE, GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900.

Z310a by Sony-EricssonFor connectivity Sony-Ericsson included in the Z310a support for GPRS, infrared, Bluetooth and USB as well, the device being also capable of synchronizing with a PC. A suite of management applications is also included and the Z310a offers access to an email client, a calendar, a calculator and many more similar useful programs. Of course the device couldn’t lack a digital camera but the one included has only a 0.3 MP taking pictures at a VGA resolution of 640×480 so you will not be able tot capture the most beautiful images at the highest quality.
We have yet no information regarding either the price or the availability but stay tuned on DevicePedia.com as we will keep you informed on any new devices appearing on the market.

After some information leaks in December, Sony Ericsson had a press released where they revealed photos of W880. We have the photos and some additional details about Sony Ericsson W880.

The camera in the front suggest the phone uses 3G technology. Even Sony Ericsson didn’t give other details or technical specifications regarding the phone, we observed it is very thin and it has a metallic finish for the front face. “The W880 will launch within the first half of 2007 when more details will be provided”, according to Sony Ericsson’s website.

Sony Ericsson concept phone

Sony Ericsson concept phone

Why are concept phones always nicer than actual products? Why is it that they never release exact copies of the concept phones on the market? Well let’s take a look at a concept mobile phone from Sony Ericsson. It looks like the glowing LG Chocolate at the display with so much shine, and like a Nokia 8800 Sirocco with that slide. Neat!

Sony Ericsson is not famous for releasing fashion cell phones, they actually are not famous for announcing concept phones on the market, but I would say a petition should be made for them to take it into consideration. We are not even sure if this beauty is going to be a Sony or not. Just hope. And that hope is counting on a 3.2 megapixel camera, 2GB memory and FM radio.

Z610i More Than Just Good Looks

Posted Monday, January 15th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

This phone from Sony-Ericsson is a true eye-candy. I would consider buying it just for its sexy design, and I am usually the kind of person that looks more for the functionality and less for the beauty. But, this post is meant as a look past the sleek design and more into the features that power this phone so let’s get started and find out what is under the hood of this 3G phone.

Z610iFirst we have a digital camera capable of taking pictures of up to 2MP with a digital zoom of 2.5x. “Nothing extraordinary” you might say, but hold on you haven’t heard everything as the really cool thing about this camera is the ability to send the pictures taken directly to your blog, without the need of a computer or anything else. Besides, you can also check the result by visiting your blog or check any other webpage with the included web browser. To cover all the multimedia features I have to mention the media player which allows you to enjoy video and audio clips on your personal mobile phone.

Moving out of the multimedia to the connectivity area we find a lot of things that have been added: a Bluetooth, 3G compatibility , GPRS support, USB synchronization, video conferencing and more. By using this phone you can have your emails just like on your PC as an email client is also included. As this article is growing to long I will just enumerate the other applications worth mentioning: the organizer, the calculator, the business card exchange and many others.

To find out more details on this phone go ahead and check the producer’s specs page by following this link.

Sony-Ericsson W200 the walkman phone

Posted Monday, January 8th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Sony Ericsson launched the alternative for the street walkman, which is actually a mobile phone. They call it “the Walkman Phone for Everyone”. It has good storage capabilities being able to store about 4 albums on the 128MB Memory Stick Micro (M2) upgradeable to 1GB , which are being played with the Disc2Phone music management software.

The W200 has two very nice features. One is the HPM-64 stereo headphone featuring Bass Reflex and the other one is the FM radio receiver permitting to store 20 radio stations. About design is pretty nice. With two renowned Walkman phone colors (Rhythm Black & Pulse White) this is a good choice for a multimedia mobile phone. Though it has a VGA 4x digital zoom camera, the snapshots are not really great, but the integrated photo album is a good addition.

The main advantages of the Sony Ericsson W200 are the full HTML web browser, push email, PC sync, video messaging and the Java MIDP 2.0. As a disadvantage we put here the low resolution screen with the 65k colors. Not nice. Overall Sony Ericsson launched a walkman with mobile phone capabilities, rather than otherwise. Will be available on markets from Q2 2007.

Sony Ericsson w950i - phone or walkman?

Posted Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The new cellphone from Sony Ericsson is an exciting addition to Walkman series. First impression is excellent design. Walkman brand is visible from the start and gives you the information you will deal with a phone which has great audio functions. The large touchscreen is a TFT display with 261.114 colors. The internal memory of 4 GB might make you think of an iPod. Now, you can take your favorite music with you, without carrying a music player. You can store hundreds or thousands of melodies and listen in your mood. The Walkman player has a function that permits you to choose music about preselected moods: “Happy”, “Energetic”, “Sad” or “Chilled”.

You will find a scroll wheel on the left side of the phone. It doesn’t look very nice, but it is very useful when you’ll try to check your music playlist. The multimedia Walkman button is situated near the keypad on the left side. When it is pressed it takes you right to the music player. This is very nice and fast. The user doesn’t need to enter the menu to use the music player. Some other key points are the FM tuner with RDS and Symbian user interface. Sony Ericsson w950i support 3G streaming. But the biggest disadvantage of this mobile phone is the missing camera. They have built a phone which is more like a music player. To name other disadvantages I would tell you that this phone doesn’t have a slot card or Wi-Fi connectivity. For a bussinesman this issue could be a problem, like the missing of EDGE technology or Quickoffice application.
Sony Ericsson w950i

All in all, Sony Ericsson w950i is a great smartphone and a great music player. It is a good choice if you don’t care so much about taking pictures or video images. This mobile is one of the great solutions on the market.
