Posted Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 by TechGeek

For long time, phones are not just only phones. Likewise, Sony Ericsson G705 keeps the trends. The elegant 3G slider has been recently announced by Sony Ericsson. It sports a large 2.4″ screen which allows users to surf the Internet throughout the integrated full HTML browser. Moreover, the mobile includes some of Google services, such as Google Search, right on the idle screen.

“This life-enhancing phone has everything you need to keep track of your daily activities and is perfect for keeping in touch with friends. It also allows you to stay fully up-to-date thanks to the full HTML browser, email support, and desktop RSS feeds - all delivered at turbo 3G speeds,” said Catherine Cherry, Global product marketing manager at Sony Ericsson.

Sony Ericsson G705 has an impressive list of features like integrated GPS with Google Maps application, RSS reader to read your favorite feeds using a Wi-Fi connection. It also offers multimedia entertainment through its built-in FM radio and 3.2 megapixel camera. Due to a partnership with Google, the recorded videos can be upload directly to YouTube. Regarding the memory capabilities, SE G705 comes with a 1GB M2 card. For connectivity, the phone uses Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Fi.

Sony Ericsson has also announced the G705u version, the first UMA enabled phone from Sony Ericsson. UMA enables users to seamlessly roam between the mobile network and local area networks thanks to GSM/Wi-Fi dual capabilities. This version will be available only for Orange carrier.

Sony Ericsson G900 preview

Posted Monday, April 14th, 2008 by Alex Ion

It was time for us to take a closer look to what the new Sony Ericsson G900 has to offer. This is more like a review because I plan to take it on all sides and look closer to all the details we have about the new G900.

Sony Ericsson G900

First thing I start with, when I do a preview/review is to see what it has inside and never judge on a first impressions. So let’s start it.

  • GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 + UMTS 2100
  • 2.4-inch TFT display with 256k colors (240 x 320 pixels)
  • 160 MB built-in memory
  • Memory Stick Micro (M2)
  • GPRS Class 10
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and USB 2.0
  • 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, image stabiliser and flash (2592 x 1944 pixels)
  • secondary video call camera
  • FM Radio
  • Busines card scanner, picture editor/blogging, handwriting recognition, document reader and editor
  • Li-ion 950 mAh battery for up to 380h in stand by and 12 hours of talking

These are all interesting features to have inside but let’s take a closer look.

Sony Ericsson G900 PROs

Though it’s pretty identical (at least physically) with its G700 brother the new G900 has a few additions and I’m talking about the interesting 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and image stabiliser. Don’t have your DSLR with you one day, take the picture with your phone. The transreflective display is also something that comes in as a nice surprise and makes it extremely legible under direct sunlight just like Nokia and Apple iPhone.

Another thing that got my attention is the fact that not only it weighs the same 99g as the G700 but it also has the same dimensions : 106 x 49 x 13 mm. So how come they managed to pack more features in the same case? Glad they did!

The keys. They are large enough and the navigation D pad offers a nice response. It’s easy to use.

Sony Ericsson G900 CONs

First thing that I didn’t like is the fact that removing and inserting a memory card has not been made easier. It’s still the old game of using something a sharp pointer (the stylus). Another thing is that the card slot is nowhere to be seen: remove the battery to access it. Too bad it’s not telescopic and too short.

The 960 mAh BST-33 Li-Po battery doesn’t seem to be as good as they say. It seems to be a poor battery for such an electricity eater, the G900 is, but it will take time until we have one in hour hands to confirm it in real life.

Design. Just to build it in the same conservative way of manufacturing mobile phones, Sony Ericsson sacrificed a bit on the design and it cost the new G900 on ergonomics and user friendliness.

These are our thoughts on the G900 so if you have your own, let us know.

Stylish Sony Ericsson T303 Announced

Posted Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The compact slider phone was announced yesterday by Sony Ericsson. It has nice metallic finish with chrome accents. The T303 model works in GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and another version called T303a is a GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900 phone. The slick Sony Ericsson T303 measures only 83 x 47 x 14.7 mm and weights 93 grams. It perfectly fits in any pocket.

Sony Ericsson T303

“The T303 is a great addition to the Sony Ericsson T-line of products, combining premium finish and materials with a good feature-set to deliver ‘style with substance’.” said Lykke Tærsbøl, Senior Designer at the Sony Ericsson Creative Design Centre.

Sony Ericsson T303 looks amazing, but I am not impressed with its features. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera and only 8MB internal memory. Furthermore T303 doesn’t have a memory card slot. Hey guys, it’s 2008! Nowadays the phones do amazing things and have high-end features. Anyway, the T303 could be used just for talking, as a regular budget mobile. Sony Ericsson mobiles have the best batteries. And this one strengthens what I am telling you with a talk time up to 9 hrs and up to 400 hrs in standby. The T303 was equipped with FM tuner, Bluetooth and the TrackID feature.

It will be launched somewhere in mid 2008. The price should be low, as the phone features don’t make too much impression.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Posted Monday, February 18th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Can’t call myself a big fan of SE handsets but this time they managed to get into my heart with their XPERIA X1 model. It’s not only the metal finishing body that charms or the full QWERTY keyboard and the slider because from what I’ve heard it packs some Windows Mobile goodies.

Though speculations were that this smartphone will run on Windows Mobile 6.5 or a pre 7.0 version, the official thing is Windows Mobile 6.1. I know it’s a bit disappointing but
hey, it has GPS, HSDPA, a 3 megapixel camera, a 3-inch VGA display doing 800 x 480, a Qualcomm 7200A processor at 528 Mhz, has 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of flash.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is supposed to be available late this year and I would really want to get my hands on one and review it for you guys. Will keep you posted.

Sony Ericsson w890i review

Posted Friday, February 8th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Announced last year, the new Sony Ericsson w890i is the perfect mobile phone for a music lover because it’s a Walkman phone. This is why I’ve thought of reviewing it. I will start with the key features.

Sony Ericsson w890iw890i Pros

I have to start with the fact that it has turbo 3G HSDPA technology for faster connections, has the Walkman music player and TrackID Music Recognition.

Wrapped up in a metal finishing in a slim casing, we get a 2-inch 262k TouchScreen display doing 240 x 320 and a 3.2 megapixel camera with digital om. The keys are small and discrete with a helpful navigation key.

Battery: good enough, 9.5 hours talking time or 360 hours in stand-by mode.

Other features: Bluetooth and USB connection if you want to connect with other mobile devices either wireless or via a cable. It also supports Java, EDGE and HSCSD.

w890i Cons

As you expected, it can’t have them all and even though it emphasizes on music other features let us down. The first thing to come into my mind is the 26MB built-in memory. Guys this is a music phone, allow me to store at least 100 mp3 files before I go grab an expansion card.

The camera: yes I know it’s a 3.2mpix, but it doesn’t have flash or auto-focus so it may not be as good as you expect. Another drawback is doing video recording @ 15fps.

Last thing I can think of is the fact that I don’t see it coming with any Walkman player skins.

All in all this is a good mobile phone. TestFreaks reviewed the w890i and the average score is 8.2 out of 10.

Sony Ericsson K800i with Ferrari Logo

Posted Monday, April 30th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Sony Ericsson K800i Ferrari

We have Sony Ericsson K800i, with 3.2mpix auto-focus camera and available in Dual Mode GSM/UMTS/GPRS, is available for at least 1 year now and it looks like Ferrari comes in to boost it a little. They’ve tuned laptops, cellphones and a few other gizmos that carry the Ferrari logo, that’s why I am thinking what will be next?

Don’t get me wrong, but the phone is great and in Ferrrari red it looks even better so the carrier that will sell it will have a great deal. I wonder who will do that because I remember the McLaren phones from Vodafone, so I guess they are out of the list. My question now, is where would you like to see the Ferrari logo on, of course except on a Ferrari car in your garage!? On what gadget, mobile phone, camera, TV, toilet seat or toothbrush? - ALEX ION

RUMOR: Sony Ericsson P700i - smartphone pics and specs

Posted Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 by Alex Ion

We’ve seen and heard things about the new Sony Ericsson P700i with all those Photoshopped images and stuff like that, but it looks like now it’s a real thing. Rumors are over and we have the mobile phone that SE will launch soon, from the Esato forums.
There are rumors also about the specifications. It works on Symbian, has a 3.2 megapixel camera with duplex LED flashlight, a 2.6-inch display with QVGA and a resolution up to 240×320 pixels. Now to bigger things: it has 160MB built-in memory and a Memory Stick Duo slot, semi-qwerty keyboard with 2 letter per key, which definitely makes it a smartphone. 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are already a standard on all new mobile phones so they couldn’t be left out. One last thing, it has Opera 8.5 for internet browsing.

I am waiting for the price now because I like what it has inside, and of course I like the looks. - ALEX ION

Sony-Ericsson W660 W660i Walkman phoneSony-Ericsson always had a great look for their mobile phones and the new 3G W660 Walkman series handset is no exception. Built for music passionates, the W660 features a stylish candybar design and it ships in two colors: Rose Red (admire it in the picture) and Record Black.

An improved storage capacity was achieved by adding a 512 MB Memory Stick Micro which will be delivered together with the mobile phone. According to Sony-Ericsson, the storage was one of the most important factors when designing the mobile phone because “research indicates users are listening to more music than ever before – an average of 4.4 hours a day, according to the latest Sony Ericsson Music Monitor”. Even if the phone has music at its core, the 2 MP (mega-pixel) built-in digital camera recommends the device for photography fans too, or even bloggers who can send a capture picture directly to their blog. You can also record video using the same bult-in camera.
Just like with the Camera Phone Kit IPK-100 presented today for Cyber-shot mobile phones, the Walkman series received an accessory too. It’s the Snap-On Speakers, MPS-75, an external speaker that is powered from the mobile phone and can play your music loudly.

Both the Walkman W660 mobile phone and the MPS-75 external speaker will be available starting the second quarter of the year. However the phone will only be sold in selected countries, while the speaker will be sell globally.
