Three new phones from Nokia

Posted Thursday, May 31st, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Nokia has recently announced three new models: Nokia 6500 Classic, Nokia 6500 Slide and Nokia 8600 Luna. The first model is a 3G mobile that is suitable for worldwide use because it is a quad-band phone. Nokia 6500 Classic will retail for 320 euros ($430) excluding the taxes and is expected in stores this summer.

The 6500 Slide is a sliding variant of the first model. It also works on 3G networks and features a 2 megapixel camera. Probably the Classic has a camera too, even it wasn’t announced in the Reuters news. Nokia 6500 Slide has a stainless steel body and will be priced at 370 euros (around $500).

About the Nokia 8600 Luna we have written about in a previous article. The price mentioned there wasn’t the official one, so you’ll find out right here - 700 euros ($940) without taxes.

Fresh release: Nokia 8600 Luna

Posted Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The guys from T3 got a video over the new Nokia 8600 Luna. The luxury black phone has a sliding body, 2 megapixel camera, FM radio and 1GB internal memory. Furthermore, the Luna uses a clear and crisp OLED screen.

As you can see in the movie, the phone looks very business. The front is covered in black glass, while the back is made out of stainless-steel. However, the price (£80) doesn’t inspire the quality for me. The official price for this phone is 700 euros or $940 without the taxes.

Posted Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Nokia today unveiled some details on the 6120 model, one of its mobile phones that are currently under development. According to these information the new candybar-shaped handset is going to use the HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Nokia 6120 Details AnouncedAccess) technology, bringing customers higher speeds when using the Internet-based application.

Featuring a front camera for video calls, the 6120 model will also benefit from a 2 MP digital camera, which comes with flash and a 4x digital zoom. Nokia built the new model using the S60 Symbian operating system and this means users can improve the functionalities of the device by downloading fresh new application from the Internet.

Another neat feature the press release tells about is in the settings transfer utility. Using the software provided by Nokia users will apparently be able to transfer their settings from previously owned Nokia mobile phones, and there’s even the option of synchronizing the 6120 calendar with the one on your computer.

Having an initial pricing of EUR 260, the Nokia 6120 will only be available starting from the second quarter of the year.- Marius TRUSCULESCU -

WiMax Technology on Nokia’s phones from 2008

Posted Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

WiMax technology offers high-speed Internet access on mobile devices like cellphones, laptops, UMPC. The world’s biggest phone producer, Nokia, is going to use the WiMax technology on their mobile. Nokia said in a statement that “plans to bring its first WiMAX enabled mobile device to market in early 2008″.

WiMax Technology

The US rival, Motorola also plans to launch its first mobile to use WiMax in 2008. Samsung unveiled at 3GSM Congress in Barcelona two handsets that use the WiMax technology. Samsung, Intel, Motorola and Nokia will support the open-standard WiMax as an alternative wireless Internet to the 3G networks which have Internet problems when voice callers are crowding the network.

WiMax offers better Internet access, but it is not so good on voice calls. Maybe the technology will get better or the phone providers will find a way to merge the two networks in a single mobile phone. - MIHNEA BOIANGIU

Posted Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Together with the beautiful 5700 model, Nokia announced details on another candybar mobile phone based on the same sexy design. With a suggested price of about 100 Euro the 5070 mobile phones will join the low-entry market, but customers may be pleased to know a good number of appealing features have made their way in the specs of this handset.

Nokia 5070

At such a low price you don’t get an MP3 player, but you have access to music trough the built-in FM radio but there is also the opportunity of selecting MP3 ringtones. A digital camera will also be present, and users will even have the option of browsing the Internet or playing Java based games.

If you find the new Nokia 5070 appealing you will have to wait as the device will be available starting the second quarter of 2007.

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic

Posted Thursday, March 29th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

This is the new Nokia multimedia mobile. The new model offers Hi-Fi sound, built-in stereo speakers and the standard 3.5 mm connector. Nokia 5700 XpressMusic is the Nokia’s response to the Walkman Series of Sony Ericsson.

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5700 operates on WCDMA 2100 MHz and quadband GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. It runs the Symbian S60 operating system. The design is brilliant. Nokia 5700 is half phone, half music player. Thus, it has dedicated buttons for music and a keyboard too. The new element in its design is the twist part. The half below the screen can be twist so you can use the phone keyboard, the music buttons or the camera.

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic

The list of specs is amazing. I think the mobiles turn in some all-in-all devices. With this one you can get quality snapshots with the 2 megapixel camera and built-in flash. The large 2.2″ QVGA display offers an active area of 33.48 x 44.64 mm. Don’t worry about storage, because Nokia 5700 accepts miniSD cards up to 2GB. So its users have the possibility to store around 1,500 songs.

The music player supports the following file formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA. Nokia promises crystal clear Hi-Fi sound quality obtained with dedicated audio chip. Using the Bluetooth, you can listen to your tunes without wires. The connectivity resumes to the following options: Bluetooth, IrDA, USB and over-the-air (OTA) synchronization with SyncML.

The XpressMusic phone will be produced in three colors: red, grey and black. The price and the availability remain a mystery. We will come back with adjacent details.

Nokia 7390 review

Posted Sunday, March 11th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu
Nokia 7390

Nokia is the no. 1 mobile producer in the world. The reason could be the great technology, perfect designs and interesting marketing campaigns. Nokia 7390 is perfect combination of style and functionality. Like most of the phones from the L’Amour collection, Nokia 7390 makes impression with the extravagant design.

The mobile has 3G support and works in EGSM 900 MHz, GSM 1800 / 1900 MHz, WCDMA 2100 MHz networks. I want to name the main advantages of this phone: integrated 3 megapixel camera with auto focus and integrated flash, stereo FM radio, large QVGA display and built-in stereo speakers. Nokia included in the package a 128 MB memory card, because the phone’s memory is only 21 MB. Other features like EDGE, Bluetooth, Infrared, secondary VGA videocall camera are present.

Nevertheless, the Nokia 7390 is great piece of work, it has some weak points too. One could be the keyboard which is a little hard to press. The radio doesn’t feature RDS function and the speakers are positioned beneath the numeric keypad.

Although the Nokia 7390 has many multimedia capabilities it is not sold like a multimedia phone. It is rather a business mobile because of the compact design. We like this stylish phone, but the price reminds about the exclusive L’Amour collection - $489.99.

Nokia Software UpdaterIt took Nokia, one year, to test the automatic software updater that no longer oblige you to visit a Nokia dealership to get the latest piece of software for your cell phone. Nokia’s Software Updater application is available to download for every user out there, and will enhance the functions or add new ones making it a better experience between the manufacture and the owner. It’s easy to install on your computer and when you’re done, just connect your mobile phone via USB and it will detect it automatically. It checks software versions, downloads patches, updates functions or get anything else necessary.
