Nokia E90, gets diamonds

Posted Thursday, March 13th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Nokia E90 with diamonds

It’s not unusual to see a great phone getting diamonds. Here we have the new Nokia E90 that was pimped by Peter Aloisson with 408 diamonds and an 18 carat white gold shell. No other specs have changed expect the luxurious aspect, which if you want, you’ll have to pay about $80k.  I don’t know if I would pay that much for it or get the money and spend it with my buddies on an island. What would you do?

Posted Tuesday, February 12th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Nokia has officially announced today its Nseries superstar - Nokia N96. The phone continues N95 tradition with high-end features and amazing multimedia capabilities. To give you a first impression, I will tell you it has 16GB internal memory, live TV with DVB-H technology and 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens.

Nokia N96

The dual-slider could be name the most powerful mobile on the market. Nokia N96 works in the following networks: WCDMA2100/900 (HSDPA) / EGSM900, GSM850/1800/1900 MHz (EGPRS). It sports a 2.8-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) LCD TFT display and supports multiple video formats. Besides, Nokia N96 features integrated music player, radio and a TV tuner as I told you above. The 5 megapixel camera captures amazing photos at 2592 x 1944 pixels. The phone has a secondary camera for chat. Also it features a built-in GPS receiver, with support for assisted GPS (A-GPS), Nokia Maps application and voice guided car navigation.

Nokia Introduces the New Nokia N82

Posted Thursday, November 15th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Nokia N82

Nokia has released the Nokia N82, as the company says “the latest multimedia computer optimized for photography, navigation and internet connectivity”. The N95’s successor, the Nokia N82 offers enhanced camera experience for photography enthusiasts along a powerful A-GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps.

The N-series multimedia mobile phone has a powerful 5MP camera with Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics. Nokia claims it delivers excellent quality photos even in low-light conditions. The camera is able to record video footage at DVD-like quality.

Nokia N82

Nokia N82 has only 2GB memory slot card, which I believe is a shortcoming for such a powerful mobile. It features Wi-Fi connectivity and supports the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including Nokia Music Store, N-Gage games and Nokia Maps. Furthermore the A-GPS and the preinstalled Nokia Maps will help its users to navigate and to explore new places. The software includes over 15 million POI and offers the possibility to purchase additional features, such as city guides and longer subscription to the navigation.

The device is ready to sell at an unsubsidized retail price of about 450 euros (or $658).

Nokia delays N-GAGE, and the music store lacks Warner’s songs

Posted Friday, November 2nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Nokia delays N-GAGE, and the music store lacks Warner’s songsIt sounds really strange but Nokia just announced today they will be delaying the August-announced gaming service, N-GAGE from November to December, because they need to have more tests done on it. Let’s just hope we get to see it live before the Holidays because people will have lots of free time to play.

“N-gage is coming in December. Software testing is taking a bit more time than what we had expected,” Kari Tuutti said. “We are talking about a couple of weeks.”

Other bad news refers to Nokia’s music store that will lack Warner Music Group’s songs because these guys are afraid of the file-sharing system Nokia has on Mosh (Mobile Sharing) with copyright issues and illegal downloads. I’m not sure what’s the relation between the music store and Mosh, but even like that Warner shouldn’t have any problems because Nokia is using “fingerprint” technology to play safe.

“There are still more than 2 million titles in the store,” Tuutti said, adding that other major labels — Universal Music Group, EMI and SonyBMG — were involved, along with numerous independent labels.

Will see in December what will happen!

Nokia N95 8GB - Spider Man 3 Edition

In addition, Nokia also offers a Spider-Man 3 themed version of this mobile. The Spider-Man 3 Edition, brings the full copy of the recent movie in the series (of course Spider Man 3), personalized themes, wallpapers and ringtones. Nokia N95 features 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi network. It also works in 3G networks across Europe and uses only EDGE networks from North America. By the way, there is no announcement for availability in North America.

Nokia N95 with a big battery, runs 9 hours on Edge

Posted Thursday, October 11th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Nokia N95The guys at WirelessInfo.com made a small test between the new Nokia N95 and the old one to see the battery’s life when used on EDGE and the results came out nicely. It stayed on for 9 hours and 14 minutes and though you may think that was the “big” battery they’ve used, it’s still impressive.

This time they tested on EDGE because last week they got some surprising reports when they made the same test on a 3G connection and apparently the new Nokia N95 ran for one hour less than its predecessor.

Nokia acquires Navteq

Posted Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The latest transaction on the technology market, comes from the Finnish company Nokia. The mobile producer has announced officially that is going to buy Navteq, a company specialized in GPS systems, and a provider of mapping data. The transaction of 8.1 billion $ was confirmed by Nokia’s officials. The high price is reflecting Navteq’s growing as a company. The shares have double their value since May, showing the increasing interest in GPS devices.

Nokia uses Navteq maps

It seems the Giant Nokia prepares for battle with Apple and Google, after last month it unveiled new online services like music downloads and playing online games. Acquiring Navteq Corp., a Chicago-based company, Nokia intends to strengthen its position on the market. The direct competitor is iPhone which provides a Map service, music downloads and internet surfing.

Despite the acquisition, Navteq will further continue to work for its clients, but will be reorganized like a Nokia Group. Nokia’s move will not affect the company’s share buybacks or future dividends. The transaction is expect to finalize in the first quarter of 2008.

Nokia Shows N7500 & N7900 PRISM Mobile Phones

Posted Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Two new mobile phones were unveiled today by Nokia, world leader in the mobile phone manufacturing market. Benefiting from a gorgeous original design, the two handsets are set to hit the market in the third quarter of 2007 at EUR 210 (N7500) and respectively EUR 400 (N7900).Nokia Shows N7500 & N7900 PRISM Mobile Phones

N7900 Prism comes with 3G and quad band GSM support so you it can practically support networks from all over the world, making it ideal for those who travel a lot. For multimedia Nokia added a 2 MP digital camera, and photos, videos or any other documents can be stored on the built-in 1 GB of available storage.

N7500 Prism is the a cheaper version of the previous model, but it also packs a 2 MP camera for taking photos or recording videos. Nokia also claims the N7500 supports up to 9 hours of continuous music playback so the multimedia support is one of its advantages. Apparently the internal storage doesn’t match the N7900, but a microSD slot can be used to add up to 2 GB (enough to hold 1500 songs according to Nokia).

Update for Nokia N800 brings Skype and more

Posted Friday, July 6th, 2007 by Alex Ion

All those Nokia N800 owners please gather around because we have news. Nokia released a software update for their Internet Table OS 2007 Edition that will keep your phone secure and will bring lots and lots of other goods.

Nokia N800Let me start with the Skype client support. It looks like Nokia N800 owners can now make free Internet Calls to other Skype users or low cost calls to landline or mobile phones all over the world. You will need to access a wireless connection to do that. Nokia didn’t mention anything regarding video on Skype, so we suspect it’s not there yet.

Other things that make this software update so great are : Adobe Flash 9 browser plugin which they say it “improves substantially the media performance when using video streaming services” (I guess YouTube is working fine now), up to 8GB memory card support and a much longer lasting battery. Touch screen sensitiveness has been improved - screen areas with most intensive use are much more efficient now.

A great update from Nokia with OS 2007 edition v. 4.2007.26-8 to include so many things. Kudos!

RUMOR : Nokia 7900 Shots and Specs Leaked

Posted Monday, June 18th, 2007 by Alex Ion

The guys at NokiaPort managed to get their hands on a Nokia 7900 picture with specs. It’s not something amazing, it’s not the best mobile phone we’ve ever seen so here it is. The dialpad is really weird with triangular buttons, it has a 1.3 megapixel camera that I can bet you cannot count very much on it, a QVGA display with 240×320 pixel resolution, 1GB internal memory and it’s quad-band GSM WCDMA.

Now comes the bad news: no WLAN and Infrared port, no FM radio and no options for external memory. At least it has Bluetooth, Handy TV (UMTS?) and MP3/Video playback.
