Diamond-studded Bathroom Faucet

If you were wondering how to make your bathroom stunning we have the solution (if you can afford it). It’s a diamond studded bathroom faucet that was designed by architect Nilo Gioacchini and then tweaked by International jewel Oscar winner, Alberto Cotogno. It’s completely made of gold and has 282 natural diamonds.

I don’t have a price for the Oz Diamond Edition faucet yet, but I’m sure it’s only for the filthy rich. If any of our readers gonna buy one, please shout back and tell us how it works and if the skin is softer after a bath.

Power-up Devices by Yourself

Posted Monday, February 11th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Once I have read an anecdote about the famous Thomas Edison. You know, he was the greatest inventor of his time. Edison had created a gate which caught the energy when people entered his yard, in the same time pumping up water into a basin. Great, isn’t it? Based on the same theory, a group of university researchers from the United States and Canada have developed a prototype knee brace that captures energy produced by human body during walking.

Knee brace power generator

“You could easily power 10 cell phones at once. There are some low power computers that you could power. You could imagine devices like GPS locaters, satellite phones,” said Arthur Kuo, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan.

The principle of working is the following: the knee brace captures energy lost when a person brakes the knee after swinging the leg forward to take a step, the researchers said. The device can generate 5 watts of electricity walking at a leisurely 2.2 mph (3.5 kph) showed their tests. It works similarly to the way that regenerative braking charges a battery in hybrid cars. However, the knee brace power generator weights a little to much to be a gadget - about 3.5 pounds (1.6 kg). For the moment the scientists researches continue to find a better way of collecting the energy in a smaller device. Anyway the progress is outstanding! Think a little about the advantages of pumping energy in all sorts of gadgets while walking. That’s totally amazing!

Car Camera Recording for Your Own Safety

Posted Thursday, February 7th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

You might think you already have too many gadgets in the car: GPS, Bluetooth, radar detector, backup camera or even a HUD. Oh well, a camera that records everything could be a great addition. Let’s face it, a lot of stupid accidents happen and the camera could record them.

The Car Camera Recorder Pro features a 2.5″ LCD screen and  attaches very easy on the rear view mirror. It starts automatically when you turn on the engine only if you plug it into the DC outlet. The camera records video footage as long as the engine is running, and of course until the memory card is full.

Car Camera Pro

As I said above the video footage is a strong piece of evidence in car accidents or inappropriate behavior. Furthermore installing it will reduce your insurance fee.

Camera’s specifications:

  • CCD: 1/3″ Sony color CCD
  • Video Resolution: Effective CCD Pixels: NTSC 510X 492; PAL 500X 582
  • Resolution: 420 TV Lines

  • S/N Ratio: > 48 dB
  • Electronic Shutter Speed: 1/60 to 1/100,000 s

Technology and Politics

Posted Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

I have found an interesting video of a LED panel belonging to Interstate AC Service in Nashville, TN. Please take your time and look at the message:

This sign overlooks I-40 westbound as it approaches downtown Nashville. Is anyone playing a joke or just the screen has got mad?

Shopping in the Future

Posted Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Media CartI don’t know how many of us would like supervised shopping, but it’s happening. MediaCart, Microsoft Corp. and Wakefern Food Corporation announced they will introduce the digitalized shopping cart in East Coast stores. At the beginning it will be a test, then the MediaCart will enter in every shop.

The MediaCart has developed an “intelligent” shopping cart, which is able to do all the shopping for you. The customers need to introduce a list with products on a website. When they get in the store they introduce a PIN on cart’s screen and it will download automatically their shopping list. Then the cart will guide them through the store to accomplish the mission. When a product is scanned, it is also deleted from the list. The intelligent cart can also calculate the total amount you need to pay, without spending additional time at the pay desk.

This new shopping cart opens new advertising possibilities. Thus, Microsoft has entered the business. On cart’s display they can deliver personalized ads for each customer. Think about! You introduce a shopping list. When you get into the store they could suggest you what to buy. That would be a great advantage for the store and for powerful trademarks. For example you need toothpaste, you want one that is well known. The cart could suggest you to try “the new Colgate SuperWhite” or “the colored Aquafresh” even you prefer “Blend-a-med”. And that is not all. In my opinion this gadget cart will invade our privacy.

Evolution, progress or is just the Big Brother?

Voltaic Generator Solar Bag

Posted Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Exploiting the solar energy has become a aim for many companies. So, Voltaic which has a great history in producing solar powered devices, has recently released a laptop bag able to recharge your gadgets. The Generator features solar panels that produce 14.7 watts per single panel. Calculating the total amount of energy produced, they estimate it could fully charge a laptop in a sunny day.

Voltaic Generator Bag

However, the Generator has its own battery to cover the lack of solar energy for cloudy days. The bag comes with many connectors and adapters for mobiles, mp3 players and other geek gadgets. Unfortunately, its price of $599 could be too much for the average customer, but if you calculate the advantages of using the solar energy in places without electricity it would be a nice addition.

Hidden (spy) camera detector

Posted Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Hidden (spy) camera detector

I am not one of those paranoid guys that the secret services or maybe their girlfriends are trying to spy on them but to be honest this new tool from ThinkGeek seems to be very useful. It’s a spy camera detector, a very small one, that flashes a LED light and plays an alarm when it detects something.

Frequencies from 50MHz to 3GHz can be scanned on variable distances and channels including a background noise eliminator to prevent detecting the wrong devices. The price for the wireless spy camera detector is $24.99 and you can find it in stock right away.

Let me know if you used it because I would be curious to know how good it was.

Digital Video Brush, Recreates Things

Posted Saturday, December 8th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Digital Video Brush, Recreates ThingsCheck out this “digital video brush” or call it the smart brush if you want. It has LEDs, a camera and a touch sensor that allows you to reproduce the selected thing, in a drawing on a special display screen. Maybe in the near future we will be able to paint a dog into a cat or things like that. Funny!

I Call Me. Find out why!

Posted Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

No, in fact I don’t call myself. I Call Me is a concept gadget that allows two way connections between a keychain and a cellphone. This devices could be very helpful when you misplace the keys. The cellphone calls the I Call Me device and vice versa when you lost your mobile.

I call me

The idea seems pretty nice, but I think is very hard to put it in production. First of all the manufacturer should consider its efficiency and utility. It might be a good solution to use radio signals between the two devices rather than a mobile network. Some mobiles have a PTT function, but the service is offered with contract. Other solution would be creating a mobile with dedicated I Call Me button that use Bluetooth or other radio waves. All in all, it is a great idea in my opinion.
