Armani and Babolat Released EA7 Tennis Racquet

Posted Friday, March 7th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Babolat EA7 tennis racquetIf you’ve been thinking what tennis racquets famous people are using the answer is we don’t know anymore. Why? Because I’ve just heard Armani managed to convince Babolat, a leading manufacturer of tennis products, to build the Emporio Armani (EA7) tennis racquet. It’s the first time Babolat enters the world of sport fashion, but it’s going to pay off I’m sure.

Using the experience Babolat has with tennis racquets high quality lightweight materials and an aerodynamic structure the EA7 is not only a high performance tennis racquet but also a very beautiful one. It provides power with each stroke, a better penetration through the air, maneuverability and is good for both experienced or uninitiated players.

Here are a few specs of the new Babolat EA7:

  • Distribution: Exclusively at Emporio Armani shops
  • Weight: 9.7 oz (unstrung)
  • Headsize: 100 sq in
  • Composition: High Modulus Graphite
  • Great mix of white, silver and black

I expect everyone to buy it if they want to be “somebody” on the tennis field. Too bad we don’t have a price yet.

Green automower by Husqvarna

Posted Friday, March 7th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Husqvarna’s Solar Powered Automower

If you are the green lazy guy that needs an automower Husqvarna has the best gadget for you. It’s a solar powered automower that will do munch grass while you’re at work or relax with a bag of chips in front of the TV. It’s smart enough to program it, has sensors to “work” in a given perimeter and is able to do up to 2,300 square meters.

It uses chargeable batteries that runs for 40 minutes and on a sunny day it goes up to 60 minutes thanks to the solar panels it has. The price is steep. About $4,000 and is only for green wealthy bastards.

Video gaming throne ironically says Game Over

Posted Thursday, March 6th, 2008 by Alex Ion

For a gamer, having gadgets related to his passion is very important. This is why I think you should take a look at “The Slacker” chair which was designed by Frederik Olsson and exhibited at the 2008 Stockholm Furniture Fair.

It was inspired from video games, looks very simple but comfortable and except the sculptured the solid wood arms it’s very minimalist. Now that I mentioned the arms, you may want to be ironic to your fellow gamers/friends and ask them to seat for a few minutes before you start the fight. It says GAME OVER … so they’ll get the point ;) - via - Yankodesign

DRS-1100 a driving event data recorder

Posted Thursday, March 6th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Nobody plans on getting into a car accident. It’s just one of those things that happen. When it does happen everyone involved will likely have a lot of opinions on the matter. The goal is to determine the exact cause of an accident, based on the best information available.

DRS-1100

Having a driving event data recorder like this GlobalTransportTech DRS-1100 installed in your car would provide you with an exact record of the events surrounding an accident from your perspective for review on custom software which integrates Google Maps.

The DRS-1100 is also a great tool for recording your driving experiences, driving habits, & any other incidents ahead of you while driving.

Here are the specs

  • Internal GPS Module
  • 1.3 Megapixel CMOS Digital sensor camera
  • 1280 x 960 Resolution
  • Audio and Video Record capability
  • Internal 3D G-sensor (Collision, Q-break, Q-accel detection)
  • SD memory card (Max 16GB)
  • Power Supply DC12.0V

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), an independent U.S. Federal agency, supports Vehicle Recording Systems so you may want to consider buying one.

MultiTouch, the Personal Skills Trainer

Posted Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Multitouch personal skills trainerWhat was the first thing that came into your mind when you read multi-touch in the title? You’re probably like me and you probably thought of the human-computer interaction where one uses force and the other one recognizes it, but to my surprise MultiTouch is also a personal skills trainer that uses multiple repetitions to develop your soccer abilities.

So what does it do exactly? The ball is connected to a cord that you use on your waist and every time you kick it, the ball comes back. That’s a self training ball and it was designed for either beginners or advanced players to improve reaction, first touch or left-right coordination and balance. It can even suit goalkeepers to improve their reaction times and catching. Here’s a video of it:

From what I can think of this is also a great trainer for those players that have been injured and can’t train harder or it could be used when the weather won’t allow a team-training. The price for Size 2, 3 and 4 balls are $11.95, $21.95 and $21.95, but they seem to offer bulk deals so if you’re a coach or run a soccer club you may want to contact MultiTouch.

Samsung launched bacteria-killing air conditioners

Posted Friday, February 29th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Where I live the summers are really hot and I’m talking like 105 Fahrenheit (40+ Celsius) or sometimes even higher, therefore an air conditioning system is very much needed. Since I plan to install one at the office I had to look around and I found out that Samsung is selling some interesting bacteria killing air conditioners that use Micro Plasma Ion (MPI) technology.

Samsung Vivace Shadow Mirror
Vivace Shadow Mirror

Developed by Samsung, the MPI technology claims to be able to kill up to 78 percent fungus and 58 percent bacteria in only 30 minutes. Along with the MPI technology the new air conditioners also use a carbon deodorizer that removes bad smell, a Silver Nano evaporator and a Catechin filter made of green tea (?) extract.

There will be two versions. One Samsung Vivace Shadow Mirror which is already selling in Singapore with a condenser but no installation for S$799 to S$899 ($572 to $643) while the other is Samsung Neo-Forte that will be unveiled in April and is cheaper.

Snowboard for two (or three)

Posted Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Not quite a gadget but I’m sure for many of us it would be an option just as good. Here we have an Idaho snowboarder that invented the record breaking two-people board. I’m not sure it the guys from JackAss tried or did it but it’s still a good concept if the slopes aren’t too steep.

I like skiing rather than boarding and that is because I can’t balance well with my legs stuck into the binders but I think I’d do good on the two-man snowboard. Oh and funny thing, there seems to be a three-man board, too? Crazy!

Fancy Tech: The Steampunk Mouse

Posted Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Steampunk mouse

The device was built from in wood, copper, pipes and other industrial materials to be given a steampunk look. The artist who created the mouse has used a theme based on a furnace. He actually used fake coal and orange LEDs to create the impression of hot coals. The amazing aesthetics resulted from the combination of copper pipes and wooden case.

This mouse fits perfect in Steampunk Laptop’s USB, otherwise it would look weird next to a high-tech laptop, like MacBook Air for example.

Top 10 “Old” Gadgets I Would Use at Least Once Again

Posted Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Not sure about you but I remember the “gadgets” of my childhood and I miss seeing them again. I would be really happy to use them just one more time. It would be really fun, though many of them may not work with the technology we have nowadays.

So here is what I miss the most.

1. A rotary phone

Rotary phone

I really had one when I was a kid. The first time I learned how to use the rotary I was very happy and for 3 hours I called all my buddies just to use it. I’m also sure it would still be fun to use one, but I think it’s only a Pulse version.

2. AM Radios

The first one I had was a GE T1151-B AM radio. I’m not that old as the radio but I got it from my grandfather and it was in a perfect condition. It’s now stacked up in the country, but I can bet my money if I were to put it on, it would work really well.

3. Reel-to-reel tape recorder

This is the device I used at my first big birth-day party where it played all evening. My uncle had one and I had to watch him using it for at least one year before he allowed me to use it. You were supposed to be very careful with the tape.

4. A diamant TV set

Diamant TV setAt the time I was interested in cartoons there were no color TVs and if they were later introduced to the market, but the price was incredible high so my family couldn’t afford one. We had a diamant TV set, with manually tuning and from 7.30 to 8.30 pm this was my best friend. Tom & Jerry ruled.
I really wonder how a HD movie would look on something like that if I would be able to connect it. (photo by hilla)

5. A soviet camera

Russian cameras

The soviets were top manufacturers back then for cameras and my parents had a Zorki while my uncle had a Smena. I remember that the pictures came out almost perfect with great colors and no blur. Just great. There was one small drawback. When you had to take the film out you were supposed to do it in the dark or the pictures would have been lost.

I’d sure like to use one again.

6. A tetris game

cheap tetris gameI remember I had one of these. It was cheap gadget but a great time killer. I used to take it with me when I was going on a bus-trip. I was competing against my father for the highest score.

Though, these days we have tetris on the iPhone or on the iPod I would sure like to power the old baby one more time and break the record. (photo by yelinna)

Did you have one of these?

7. A tamagochi game

Tamagochi gameSo fun. It is a digital pet that we were supposed to feed, play games with or clean up. In a simple egg-shaped computer with a few buttons all of these were possible.

The company that invented the Tamagochi game is Bandai and because of the success the game had from 1996 when launched it was improved every year (until today).

Why I would power it one more time is obvious. To see if I can manage it as I did while I was a kid.

8. The old home computer

CIP-03 by Electronica

You probably had a Commodore computer or a ZX-Spectrum, but the one I had was dubbed CIP-03 was produced by a Romanian company and was running on Basic-s. This was my first encounter with computer games. My favorite games were Renegade (1 and 2), Chuckie Egg (1 and 2) and Saboteur (1 and 2) but I had limited access to them, only after finishing my homeworks.

Playing these games again on my old computer would be awesome.

9. The fancy retro fridge

This would make a great addition to my living room so I’m not sure if I would power it just once. If I were to have a rusty retro/old fridge I would invest a few bucks to make it work and look shinny again. Then I’d fill it with beer. A piece of furniture filled with beer, sounds right don’t you think?

10. A PEGAS bicycle

Pegas bicyclePegas? I hear you asking. It’s a retro-bicycle launched in the `80s that was very popular when I was young. The kid that had one of these was the one because everyone was asking for a quick ride. It had no speeds, the breaks were not great but we still loved it.

It would be fun to use my Pegas bicycle in the park, on a weekend. I wonder what would those with high-tech bikes would say. (photo by oohp)

These are my top 10 picks but I’m sure you guys have more to add. Put it in comments below.

Solar-powered Dragonfly to Annoy the Neighbor

Posted Monday, February 25th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Solar-powered Dragonfly to Annoy the Neighbor

We don’t have a category tagged precision but this is where this little electronic insect should be put. It’s a solar-powered dragonfly that was designed by James Watt and thanks to those solar cells it can flap its wings thanks to a pager motor. I don’t know how that guy managed to make it look so real or if it can fly to your neighbor’s front porch and annoy the old guy but I love it.
