Crystals backlit by LEDs - That’s How You Make a Watch

Posted Friday, April 11th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Crystal LED Watch ZIMA

Something I always wished for. A watch with crystals that are backlit by LEDs. How fancy would it be and what friends will say, I let you be the judge of it. Designed by Ilya Yakovlev and inspired by the Swarovsky Signity watches the Crystal LED Watch has an interesting feature: you can adjust the color and luminosity to suit your mood. I can’t say for sure if someone will produce it (though I see a ZIMA logo) but I’m pretty confident is going to cost a lot of dough.

Hot Legs Getting Electric Socks

Posted Monday, March 31st, 2008 by Alex Ion

Electric heated socks

The electric socks were designed to keep North Atlantic fishermen warm but I think we could use them, too. The socks are a mix between wool and polyester, with a few wires and resistors going down to under the ball of the foot. It’s actually some sort of battery-powered-heating beyond weirdness that will cost you $22 if you want it.

We’re waiting for the electric undies to keep the “guys” warm.

The Stripping Matryoshka Doll

Posted Sunday, March 30th, 2008 by Alex Ion

stripping matryoshka doll

Do you remember the “40 year old virgin” doll? Following the trend here is a new one, but it’s probably not really safe for work. It’s a stripping Matryoshka doll, yes those dolls that decrease in size and are placed one inside another. It’s not really like playing strip-poker but it’s funny to buy as a gift for your boss, if he has a sense of humor.

The price is $76.21.

Sarpaneva’s Koruna K3 (and K2) - Moon Watches

Posted Saturday, March 29th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Sarpaneva Korona K3

No these are not watches to take with you on the Moon (when it will be available). These are just some funny designed bas-relief double moonphase watches by Sarpaneva. I think what they managed to come up with, is pretty ingenious. These are pictures of the Korona 2 and Korona 3, that will be produced any time soon. We will keep you updated if you like them.

Reppo II - The Urban Boombox Backpack

Posted Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Reppo II Boombox Backpack

I don’t know why but the urban boombox backpack reminds me of those backpacks dispensers for beer. Probably because it involves some sort of mobile-party? Yeah, that’s it. Designer Joonas Saaranen is responsible for drawing the Reppo II, which is an urban hardshell backpack with built-in speakers. Make a small place to keep your beer and this would be the ultimate gadget when you go out with your buddies.

Top Gun: Real pilot seat for flight simulators

Posted Monday, March 24th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Mk. 5 ejection seatIf you’re serious with flight simulators and you’re a good pilot with $15,560 on hand, this seat is for you. Believe me when I tell you this is exactly what you need if you want to prove you’re a good. It’s a , completely restored Mk. 5 ejection seat by legendary Martin-Baker (ejection seat and escape system technology) and can withstand 40 G deceleration loads.

The chair you see in the picture is the original with cushions and harness (won’t get these when you buy it) that will make a perfect gift for yourself, obviously.

Fighter jets like the Grumman Cougar, the Grumman A6 Intruded, the Mirage, the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, the F-8 Crusader or the F11 Tiger are just a few examples of the many planes that used the Mk. 5 ejection seat.

For $15,560 this is how it looks.

Solar-powered portable media player

Posted Friday, March 21st, 2008 by Mihnea Boiangiu

I agree with ecologists and energy preserving, so I want to make you aware about sun’s free energy that is out there. Thus, I want to greet the manufacturers of the eMotion Solar PMP.

eMotion Solar PMP

This gadget has a built-in solar battery charger so  you won’t run out of juice. Its storage can upset some people because it has only 1GB internal memory and support only 2GB SD card. I think its performances can’t meet the market’s needs. The EM-SOL1GIG PMP supports MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, WAV, ADPCM, AMR music files, AVI and MPEG4 video files and also JPEG, BMP, GIF for viewing photos.

Its screen of 320 x 240 pixels can offer a decent gaming experience for old school boys. Furthermore the device features an e-book reader and USB 2.0. The package includes a charger  adapter for other electronic devices such as mobiles, cameras, music players. Protect the environment and go for it!

Buy it here for $159.

HalfMoon Chair is for Batman

Posted Thursday, March 20th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Halfmoon chair, or the batman chair

Designer Louis Saul is responsible for building the HalfMoon Chair, which as you can see from this angle looks like the place where Batman watches movies, doesn’t it? Another point of view is that the Batman chair has a skeleton-like design with cushions made from bright orange sponge rubber. Looks a lot like six-pack abs, doesn’t it? Oh, last thing I like is that the chair has storage space for books. I wonder if Batman was reading books …
