Dell To Sell Linux Powered Computers

Posted Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Apparently the computer maker is giving into people’s pressure just like with the introduction of AMD based products. DellLinux recently announced it will start shipping desktops and notebooks with pre-installed Linux on them and consumers are the only ones to blame.

Last week Dell did set-up two websites (www.dellideastorm.com and www.studiodell.com) to get the consumers opinions and suggestions on their products and apparently the number one request was clearly for Linux products. For the time being Dell is only working with Novell, the company behind the SUSE distribution, but, as many distribution have been requested, they intend on letting the users decide what Linux flavor will be installed on their desktop or notebook.

Other open source solutions were also requested to be pre-installed on computers, like the Firefox web browser or the Open Office suite and Dell is looking into that too. However, the company stills recommends Windows to their consumers and this might take years to change.

Posted Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Glaser is the name under which A4Tech chose to present a new technology that is supposed to make optical mouses competitive on glass surfaces. The product will not only work on normal surfaces but on shinny and even transparent ones too due to the dual focus technology for which A4Tech has a pending patent.

As this new technology is not available on just a single mouse you have a lot of models from which you can choose a design that you like. And if you are a lazy boy, A4Tech also included in the models available a double click button which generates a double action from a single press on this button.

Cooler Better Graphics

Posted Wednesday, February 7th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Asus presented us with a new solution for increasing the gaming capabilities of our computers with the new EN8800GTX Aqua Tank/HTDP/768M. Asus’s product promises better graphics performance without the usual increase in temperature and this is enough reason to search more into it.

GF8800TX Aqua Tank by AsusAt heart the new product is a Nvidia GeForce GF 8800 GTX GPU that is overclocked to 630 MHz (from 575 MHz) with the sole purpose of obtaining an increase in performance. The downsize of this would be an increase in the overall temperature of the hardware, but ins Asus’s device the extra heat from the overclocking is dissipated using the Aqua Tank water cooling compact solution that is both effective and it doesn’t uses much space.

To sum it up there is up to 11% increase in performance and a 12°C drop in temperature when comparing the new product with the standard GeForce 8800 GTX. Even if this might not seem much it could just be the edge you needed for delivering better graphics for the new demanding games.

New Look For PC’s

Posted Monday, January 29th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Desktops have their own fashion but searching for a chassis is not just looking for the best design as it must fit your computer’s requirements first. Asus tries to come at your rescue with the new TA-66 line of chassis that provide both a cool design and great functionality.

As computers tend to consume more and more power the heat inside the chassis is constantly increasing with performance. This is why heat dissipation should always be your priority. Asus addressed that issue with two 120mm fans one in the front and other in the back of your PC to ensure a constant air flow inside the chassis and to keep your hardware cool while also keeping the noise low.

But Asus has thought at the design too and the TA-66 line looks great. The chassis also offers access to USB 2.0 ports via a front panel that includes connectors for your microphone and headphones too. Concerning the colors you can rest assure that you will find one for your taste as the product comes in 5 different versions.

I didn’t cover the Pocket Pc segment in a while so I will break the ice with one of HP’s products, the iPAQ rx4240. With the price set at $299.99 this device offers some good value considering the features it packs.

Free Yourself With Creative’s Wireless 9000 Pro

Posted Sunday, January 28th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

With the new Wireless 9000 Pro keyboard and mouse set, Creative is trying to set a new standard for both the functionality and the design of PC interfacing devices. I think there is no need to try convincing you of the good looks of this set as the picture speaks for itself and if this doesn’t impress you I don’t know what would.

Creative Wireless 9000 Pro

The simple, yet stylish keyboard, has (besides the regular keys) a set of 15 buttons for special hot-key actions like opening you music player, internet browser, calculator and many other useful functions. For controlling the volume, Creative used not regular buttons, but a wheel that’s gorgeously integrated above the numpad area. Concerning the second device of the set know that a 800 dpi optical sensor provides precise movement tracking for the 7 buttons wireless mouse.

Both the mouse and the keyboard are rechargeable and you can even use them while recharging using the included USB recharging cable. All the above are really nice feature, but the best thing in my opinion is the range of this devices, which is stated to top 7m (23 ft.) without any drop in performance.

A Beautiful Wireless Mouse From BenQ

Posted Friday, January 26th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

BenQ is a well known company and the products they release are all both good looking and functional and so is the mouse I am presenting today. Saying the M306 is beautiful is not quite enough as the device is astonishing and you can see this for yourself. The great design made by BMW Designwork USA is the main attraction for BenQ’s mouse but be sure that it doesn’t lack in functionality either.

BenQ's M306 wireless mouseThe M306 is a wireless optical mouse with a 800 dpi sensor to precisely track all your movements. It can connect to any PC using either the PS/2 or the USB port. The device has 5 buttons (2 of which can be configured separately) and a scroll wheel made out of a special material for better finger traction.

As in all the wireless devices a main concern is the power and BenQ has tried to address this problem with theirs power saving mode. Basically this is achieved by pressing all the 3 buttons on the mouse at the same time, or automatically after a short period of inactivity.

The GT-U800-RH is actually a hybrid device as it is able to receive both analog and digital channels and can also record directly or on a schedule. As you can see from the picture, a remote controller is also included together with an antenna. A great plus to this device, according to Gigabyte, is the mobility, meaning the signal reception is good even at high speeds.

I don’t have an exact date to offer you regarding the availability of the product, but I am sure you won’t have to wait to long for it.

X-240 Speaker System From Logitech

Posted Wednesday, January 24th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Logitech,a world leader among the companies that offer accessories for computers and computers related devices, presented this new set of computer speakers this month at CES.

Logitech X-240 Speaker system

Looking at the X-240, the first thing that draws our attention is the sleek beautiful design that makes this devices easily fit everywhere, from the office to the living room. Yet, the main advantage of using this device is the possibility of connecting it to your iPod, Zune, PDA or other portable media device trough the new cradle. Using this connection you can play the files from the device, while also synchronizing and charging it and, when you are done you, can easily hide the cradle.

Moving to the specs part of this review I have to draw your attention toward the 25 W of power that comes from two satellites of 5 W each and a 15 W subwoofer. You may also want to know that the speakers offers a 40Hz-20KHz frequency response and that Logitech has set the price to just $49.99
