Posted March 2nd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu
Sony launches the new Walkman NW-A800. This is the first Sony Walkman with video capabilities. Sony promises a great adversary to the Apple’s iPod. The Sony Walkman NW-A800 is a Video MP3 player very slim and small. It fits very well in your pocket or bag. The color-rich 2†QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) TFT LCD screen offers unbeatable clarity, says Sony. The video footage can be viewed vertically or horizontally to enhance the viewing experience.

The audio quality will be the best, because the NW-A800 has three built-in Clear Audio Technologies – Clear Stereo, Clear Bass and Sony unique Digital Sound Enhancement
Engine (DSEE). The device is available in three memory sizes - 2GB, 4GB and 8GB, and in four colors: black, blue, white and violet. Sony announced that the new Walkman can pump up to 30 hours of music in your ears. This means it beats easily the iPod Nano with around 8 hours. The NW-A800 offers 8 hours continuous video playback. The device supports MP3, WMA and Sony’s ATRAC music files. Other features include jpeg image storage/viewing/slideshow functions. It supports MPEG4 video format.
Sony is confident the new product will be a success, as a spokesman told: “The new WALKMAN Video MP3 player combines the best visual experience with the ultimate in Sony sound technology. The new WALKMAN is compact, stylish and affordable without compromising on screen size which is incredibly important for consumers. We’re confident that this is a great-looking product with the technology to match. Once downloaded with music, TV clips, photos and videos taken with Cyber-shot digital still cameras and Handycam camcorders the Walkman Video MP3 player will entertain and delight our consumers, anytime, anyplace.â€
The Sony Walkman NW-A800 is going to be shipped in Europe from April. The prices are: €350 the 8GB model, €250 the 4GB model and €200 the 2GB model. The prices are higher in comparison with iPod Nano, but customers should decide that.
