Ink coated tiles made from beach sand can be stacked together into a unit about the size of a refrigerator. Oxygen and fuel are fed in and the chemical reaction that takes place inside generates huge amounts of energy without combustion.

The is already being used by eBay who run it on landfill waste-based bio-gas. They say the box generates more electricity than 3,000 solar panels. A single tile is enough to power a light bulb so a small stack can power a home. A number of companies are trying the technology out and Bloom Energy is aiming to make it available for general consumers. Although the initial cost of the unit is very high over time it can provide abundant cheap electricity.
