iPhone.com sold for $7M

Posted Saturday, May 31st, 2008 by Alex Ion

iphone dot com

Apple just bought the .com domain for $7 million from Michael Kovatch. Mike bought the domain in 1995 when the phones still had wires and we weren’t expecting anything with touchscreen.

I’m not sure if they’re going to give us iPhone reviews on the site or hot news about the “best cellphone in the world” as some may call it, but we’re prepared. There are info about the revolutionary features of the , rate plans, specifications or how to get started using it. Cellphones evolve, so to be honest I was expecting something like this, though it wasn’t that figure I was counting on.

Good job to Mike selling the domain and to Steve buying it, as DomainTools reports. If you’re visiting .com you’ll be sent to Apple’s page from now on, so go ahead and try it.

HTC Touch Diamond

First batch of 10,000 units of have been shipped today to Hong Kong CSL. I’ll have to be honest and tell you that I’m already drooling but I can’t do anything about it. Just like all other I’ll have to wait till June, when will begin shipping to European and Asia-Pacific operators. These are moments when I am glad I don’t live in the States because the report from Digitimes doesn’t mention anything about the new being shipped to US.

World’s smallest projector by Earth Trek

Posted Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 by Alex Ion

Earth Trek mini projector

With more and more people buying an in-home cinema and because everyone needs gadgets as small as possible, Earth Trek decided to announce their new 90-850R as the ‘world’s smallest’.

Now as technology gets more advanced each day, it probably won’t stay the ‘world’s smallest’ for long, even though it is a tiny 4 by 2 inches big. The tiny machine puts out a massive picture, measuring 22-inches diagonally, however it is not known what distance this is from. Even though it’s only a small device, it also carries a stack of other features, like the built in speaker, an SD card slot and A/V input through a 3.5mm jack.

The release date and price are still unknown, but we’re  expecting some official info from the company.

Best deals for CD-R/DVD-R electronics

Posted Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 by Alex Ion

I don’t usually go online to buy but I had a very pleasant experience with Shop4tech a few weeks ago. I asked left and right where I could buy a cheap xD Type Picture card for my Fuji digital camera and I ended up on their site. It was a great price, I agree but it’s then when I noticed that these guys are really professionals when it comes to selling CD and DVD media.

They have over 500,000 customers and counting to offer them a CD/DVD range of products that include burners, duplicators, printers and cases all for very good prices.

It all started with me paying the invoice, which I failed many times but their support was great. They called me to make sure everything is all right and advised how to continue and make sure everything settles. Another thing that made me choose them instead of other online shops, is that they offer free shipping, a very user-friendly and extremely secure website.

I really advise you to take a look no matter if you’re an individual, corporate or governmental client and get back to us if you like what you see. Will be waiting for your comments.

Mars Phoenix lander – it’s cold there

Posted Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 by Alex Ion

view from Phoenix lander

On Sunday, May25th at 4:53pm the Phoenix Lander made first contact with the surface of Mars. The guys and girls at are saying the landing couldn’t have gone any smoother and it was better than any tests or simulations they did here on Earth.

The spacebot is tilted ¼ of a degree – this is next to nothing compared to what they were estimating would happen. According to the Phoenix Lander the temperature at the North Pole touchdown was -106 degrees Fahrenheit – this is cold enough to preserve life.

The Mars Oddyssey has passed over the Phoenix Lander and we now have our first pictures. Still no life – bugger.

Well the Phoenix Lander will stay on Mars for 90 days and has plenty more time to go round collecting samples, taking pictures and trying to find some life on Mars. Let’s hope it brings back something of interest.

Navman S90i review

Posted Sunday, May 25th, 2008 by Alex Ion

It’s true that most of the GPS devices nowadays seem to be very much alike, but there is something about the new Navman S90i – the cream of the S-series from , that got my attention. With a stylish design, the basic specs are notable : text-to-speech technology, vivid interface, keyboard says letters out loud, preloaded speed and red light camera alerts, Bluetooth handsfree and a NavPix 2-megapixel camera.

Navman S90i

The S90i is equipped with the popular SiRFstarIII GPS receiver is efficient, speedy and takes less than a minute to pick up a GPS signal, which is something I really enjoy when buying a GPS unit.

Another good point is that when you search for a specific address it filters suburbs by state, reducing the list of results to a manageable number. It can be as specific as a house number, intersection or to the centre of the street or city. However it’s not smart enough to track something down by postcode.

The S90i it’s packed with the WhereIS R14 maps and uses the SmartST 2008 navigation software that offer clear maps and precise voice instructions.

Pairing via Bluetooth is quick and easy, and there are a number of phone functions you can access through the menu: phonebook, SMS messages or your call log.

One last thing I like is that it has a pretty good battery that can last up to four hours (specs say five) on a full charge, but it has a big drawback. No AC adapter to charge it, only via USB or in your car.

Samsung 256GB SSD Announced

Posted Friday, May 23rd, 2008 by Alex Ion

Samsung 256GB SSD

is going to release a 256GB . It’s supposed to be uber-fast because the MLC-flash SATA II drive has speeds of 200MBps read and 160MBps sequential write which is awesome. There is no certain thing that we will afford it but there’s time till September when the 1.8-inch version should be available. It may be a good idea to wait until the half a terrabyte SSDs will be available, don’t you think?
