Toshiba teasing with a WQUXGA 22-inch monitor that does 3,840×2,400 resolutions

Toshiba teasing with a WQUXGA 22-inch monitor that does 3,840×2,400 resolutionsIt’s been some time since we talked about some fancy monitors. Toshiba is trying to make us drool with their newest WQUXGA 22-inch monitor they’re working on, which does 3,840×2,400 resolutions. This really sounds interesting, right? But would you be set back if I tell you this little one sports 300:1 contrast ratios? Would you be interested to know that you’d have to pay $18,000 for the monitor itself and another $2,700 if you plan to connect it to your PC? I am sure I can’t afford to pay 20 grand on a monitor and I guess Gizmodo heard me because they found a 22-inch WQUXGA by ADTX which costs only (not sure what contrast rate or resolution) $1,700.

Asus Eee PC unboxed video and a bonus - dissection

Posted Friday, November 2nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Not sure if you can consider this a laptop, but I am telling you that’s exactly what it is. It went on sale on NewEgg yesterday and there are already unboxing and reviewing videos. To go a little bit off-topic, I am not a fan for the OLPC project mainly because they wanted to create a $100 laptop and ended up with $200 and probably above that, in the near future, but I think for $399 (or even lower because they may offer a discount for hundreds of thousands of laptops) the reviews are extremely good. Here is a video of unboxing and some more comments after the jump.

Now that we’ve seen it unboxed I guess you would be interested to know what it has inside? TweakTown did the dissection and it’s not gross at all. Here’s the gallery.

Nokia delays N-GAGE, and the music store lacks Warner’s songs

Posted Friday, November 2nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Nokia delays N-GAGE, and the music store lacks Warner’s songsIt sounds really strange but Nokia just announced today they will be delaying the August-announced gaming service, N-GAGE from November to December, because they need to have more tests done on it. Let’s just hope we get to see it live before the Holidays because people will have lots of free time to play.

“N-gage is coming in December. Software testing is taking a bit more time than what we had expected,” Kari Tuutti said. “We are talking about a couple of weeks.”

Other bad news refers to Nokia’s music store that will lack Warner Music Group’s songs because these guys are afraid of the file-sharing system Nokia has on Mosh (Mobile Sharing) with copyright issues and illegal downloads. I’m not sure what’s the relation between the music store and Mosh, but even like that Warner shouldn’t have any problems because Nokia is using “fingerprint” technology to play safe.

“There are still more than 2 million titles in the store,” Tuutti said, adding that other major labels — Universal Music Group, EMI and SonyBMG — were involved, along with numerous independent labels.

Will see in December what will happen!

Time Magazine says the iPhone is “The Invention of the Year”

Posted Friday, November 2nd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Are you familiar with the iPhone? You’re right, I don’t know where that came from, of course you are. If you remember the buzz it created when coming on the market, sales and the time it passed before we got our hands on it, I think Time’s Magazine award for The Invention of the Year will not come as a surprise to you. Indeed, it’s the iPhone.

Time Magazine says the iPhone is “The Invention of the Year”

They managed to find five reasons - as the iPhone would need reasons - to make this nomination. The first is the design, because from early project stages it was all about the idea of a “pretty phone”. Other phone manufacturers where always putting design on second place so that’s where the iPhone won people’s hearts.

Other reasons to declare it the best invention of 2007 have been the touchscreen display, OS X platform that drives it, a future projection of what will happen to it if we think of the iPod and the fact that it will make other phones better.

Upload Your Photos Directly with the Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card

Posted Thursday, November 1st, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

I know that uploading the photos to your favorite website or into the computer can be a boring operation. It happened many times for me to forget the photos in my camera just because I didn’t feel like doing it. Not it appears a solution called Eye-Fi wireless SD card.

Eye-Fi wireless card

The Eye-Fi card is a regular 2GB storage card with built-in Wi-Fi. It features a software that automatically upload photos when it reach a wireless hot-spot. If you get this gadget, you will surely forgot about cables and card readers. The cool thing about this card is you can upload the photos to your favorite social websites using the Eye-Fi Service. It works in a 90+ feet outdoors range and 45+ feet indoors range. To easily transfer the photos you need to have a free access Wi-Fi network or to have the passwords. The Eye-Fi card doesn’t work in commercial hot-spot like Starbucks for example.

You can buy the 2GB Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card for $100. It could be on your Christmas list, because the price is fair and it delivers a lot of functionality for your camera.

The Army Is Able to Make Tanks Invisible?

Posted Thursday, November 1st, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The British Ministry of Defense announced it can make tanks invisible using the new technology. The Army predicted that such a tank will be available in 2012. The technology uses cameras and projectors that actually project the surrounding environment onto the tank. Consequently, if someone looks in the direction of the vehicle, he will only see what’s beyond it.

Invisible tank

This “invisible technology” is more like an illusion for the eyes. The tank exists, it is there on the field, but the cameras and projectors hide it for enemy’s sight. I believe this is possible, because the technology evolves every day. It seems the Army also prepares an invisible jacket based on the same principle. Perhaps in ten years from now the army troops won’t need to battle anymore because they don’t see each other.

SATA USB Stage Rack

Posted Thursday, November 1st, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The hard drives that come with computers today don’t fulfill our need for storage. Thus, many computer users purchase additional memory tools like external hard drives or external racks.

SATA USB Stage Rack

The product I have found today is a serial ATA (SATA) external rack that uses the USB connection. It supports 3.5″ and 2.5″ drives and an additional energy source beside the USB cable. The device has an eject button and a blue LED that shows it is in activity. The SATA Stage Rack retails for $47.
