Lenovo Xiang, the Olympics Laptop

Posted Monday, July 16th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Lenovo Xiang

We have news regarding Lenovo Xiang, or call it the Olympic Games Lenovo Laptop, that was exhibited at a Southeast Asian expo. It comes with a “Cloud of Promise” design that is specially made for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the only specs we have are a 12-inch widescreen, 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor, three USB ports and a multi-format card reader among others. That’s not much, and we are still waiting for the most important ones like the release date and price.

I see the same marketing used on the iPhone for the new Lenovo Xiang, but I don’t think it will have the same success. Deluding someone with news about a product is not always the best advertising. Pictures, thanks to Aving!

Samsung’s third-gen Blu-ray players BD-P2400 and BD-P1400

Samsung’s third-gen Blu-ray players BD-P2400 and BD-P1400

It’s news day from Samsung and here are two new blu-ray players that they’ve announced. Samsung BD-P2400 and BD-P1400 are both blu-ray players with native HD at 1080p / 1080i / 720p that can play at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. There’s something else I can note down here, bigger brother BD-P2400 uses the HQV standard from Samsung, “Hollywood Quality Video” that will make Harry Potter’s spells to be extremely real. Both the blu-ray players handle up-convert DVDs to 1080p via HDMI.

Audio : coaxial and optical digital outs serving 5.1 stereo, MP3 playback, Dolby Digital Plus with DTS HD and supports Dolby TrueHD
Video: HDMI, S-video and composite outs

Samsung BD-P2400 will cost $649, going live from October and BD-P1400 is $549 but has a release date in September. The price is still very high from what people say, and if you think the PS3 plays blu-ray discs you might give it a good thought before buying one.

DIY : Interactive Multitouch Display

Posted Thursday, July 12th, 2007 by Alex Ion

With all the fuss about Microsoft Surface(which is extremely expensive) and iPhone’s fancy display, there is a guy that thought of creating a step by stem tutorial to create your own interactive multitouch display with just a few hundred bucks, a little geek stuff like a projector, a modified webcam and a homemade acrylic whiteboard, community-made software and some work.

You can check out below an illustrative picture of how the finger interacts with the acrylic surface, a video of how the whole gadget works and the link to the step-by-step guide. It’s your geek chance to create something that everyone wishes these days if you put some work into it.

Posted Thursday, July 12th, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

LG’s officials today announced the availability of a new colour for their Shine mobile phone. Since the new “Titanium Black” colour is “edgier than ( regular) black and more chic than silver“, the device is supposed to “appeal to customers who demand the highest standards in style and technology“, says the official announcement.

For those interested in more than just colour the phone hasn’t changed as it packs exactly the same features as its other colour siblings (audio and video playback, digital camera with autofocus, a microSD expansion slot and more). The Titanium Black version of this multimedia handset will be available in the UK, France, Netherlands and Austria from the very end of this month.
