MSI GX600 - The Gaming Monster Notebook

Posted Thursday, June 7th, 2007 by Alex Ion

MSI GX600 - The Monster Gaming NotebookI am not a fan of those heavy laptops but if I need it for road gaming I am sure that’s what I need. Until now it nobody had a pretty good offer for gamers. Either the battery didn’t last enough or the graphics were not the best. These being said I will tell you more about MSI GX600 that weights 5.7lbs. The feature I like the most is the Turbo button. Do you remember 10 years ago those old computers that had Turbo? I do. Pressing this button will bring 20% more processor power and front-side bus because it enters the Acceleration Mode.

It uses a Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 802.11n wireless connectivity, Intel PM965 Express chipset, PCMCIA Type II slot, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, HDMI and S-video output. Optional you can get Bluetooth. The graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GT with 512 RAM which is pretty good, that will render on the 15.4-inch WXGA widescreen display.

Gigabyte U60 UMPC With A Small Mouse Pad

Gigabyte U60 UMPC

We got to see the pictures of the new Gigabyte U60 UMPC, taken by Aving at Computex, and I should tell you it’s really nice. It has a tiny mouse touch-pad just near the 6.5-inch LED display that makes it as usable as a regular laptop.

For those that are interested in what powers this little gadget, it has a 1.0GHz VIA C7-M processor and 768MB DDR2-533 RAM (more than my actual laptop) and a 30GB, 4200rpm PATA hard-drive. Come on, how good is that, because it’s really powerful. Also keep in mind that it has a QWERTY keyboard and a built-in webcam. Add to these specs that it only weights 740 grams and it makes me wish I had one.

Apple presented some new commercials for the iPhone. In the TV spots, they announced the official date for launching: June 29th. Here are the three commercials that officially say the iPhone is coming on June 29th:

This is a little unusual because history shows that Apple released products only Thursday. Obviously, the tradition will be changed because June 29th is a Friday.

UPEK Eikon Fingerprint Reader : REVIEW

UPEK Eikon Fingerprint Reader : REVIEW

It looks like Gizmodo got their hands on the new Upek Eikon Fingerprint reader and they are really impressed. The most interesting thing is that it works fine with Firefox which is much better than what we got from Microsoft (it was just for logging in). Upek Eikon works both for IE and FF, really well, has a very smart sensor so that you don’t clean it with warm watter every few days and I must tell you it works just fine both in XP and Vista. No Mac so far!

After installing and setting up, get to work with it. The recognition rate is pretty good but don’t swipe your finger on the sensor, too fast, because you will confuse it. You need to give it time to get acquainted with their phrasings. For example “replay your registration” which means that it will use your pre-set login and password.

The price of $39 is pretty cheap I think and the product really does the job done well.

We presented you the LG Wine Phone in a previous article. I find the design spectacular! Even the features of the Wine Phone don’t include the latest techy discoveries it will have an important impact for the consumers. Let’s think a little at the Moto’s RAZR which was a bestseller at his time. Probably LG Cyon SV300 will get the same success. Here is a video of the mobile:

Google Maps Streets View: see the camera that does that !

Google Maps Streets View: see the camera that does that !

I’ve seen the pictures with the new feature streets view from Google Maps. I must say that I was pretty curious who and how they took them. There are two examples : San Francisco and New York City. For NYC Google use the services of Immersive Media and their VW Beatle with a 11-camera contraption on top. IM is a company licensed in making 360 degree videos.

However if we look at pictures in San Francisco they seem to be much more clear and in detail. Could it be because Google used their own van to take them?
