A Pocket Sized Digital Wi-Fi Detector

Posted Thursday, May 24th, 2007 by Alex Ion

Digital Wireless DetectorNot once I needed wireless and I had to find it with my laptop, searching and searching. I am in a hotel right now and they have so many available connections, but if I am in the middle of my town and I need to send an email quickly it’s hard. Not to mention that my laptop battery will not be good enough to search Wi-Fi more than 45 minutes.
Digital WiFi detector

Therefore the digital WiFi detector is the best solution. It works powered by 2 AAA batteries and it does just what it says : detects wireless connections in the area you are. IT will show you how good the signal is, info about the network, SSID and the encryption status. Thinking how will the digital WiFi detector do when there are many connections? Scroll for each and every one of them! Apart from the fact that it’s very useful, you can call it really handy because it will slip easily in the pocket of your jacket.

The price is not cheap, $120 (£59.95) but I want one. - ALEX ION

USB Mini Refrigerator For The Hot Summers

Posted Thursday, May 24th, 2007 by Alex Ion

USB Mini Refrigerator For Hot SummersIt seems like there are geeks computer users that think going to the old fridge in the kitchen is old fashioned and since they are lazy, manufacturers invented another USB gadget. The USB Mini Fridge is going to make your life much easier, because whenever you need a pack of Coke you put it in and get it chilled. It’s a miniature refrigerator with the same design as a big one, with light inside.

For those that drink bottled water the USB mini refrigerator is not an option because it only has room for cans. The price is $33 from Brando and I let you be the judge of being a “pointless USB gadget” or not! - ALEX ION

Posted Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Leather mouse and hubThe title says it all, and I guess the pictures, too. You get to see two fancy gadgets, the leather mouse and the leather USB hub, that your billionaire friends will appreciate during business meetings. I can bet my earnings that they would be much more jealous on your leather mouse rather than your Rolex, and that is because they already have one Rolex.

It really shows off. It inspires luxury thanks to the brown and black colors of the leather. However the guys at Earth Trek have two more colors: white and pink so that you make sure you can annoy the billionaire women you know. Buy one and make them cry when you browse devicepedia.com. We don’t know prices and availability, but hope to get it soon. - ALEX ION

Safety Shield - Protecting Your TV

Posted Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 by Alex Ion

Safety Shield Protector For TVs

I know myself with a bad temper, because it happened not once, but twice to break a chair watching UEFA Champions League when my local soccer team played. The chair got the pressure so that I don’t throw anything towards the TV. Imagine how I felt when I saw that they have TVs screen protectors for those expensive large plasmas or LCDs.

I am also thinking of those Nintendo Wii players that often lose the controllers and break screens worth thousands of dollars, they would be happy with the protector, too! It’s called the Safety Shield and the manufacturers assure us to get 98% of the light through, which is almost un-noticeable to the eye. It will also be a way of reducing the UV rays, cool.

The price is not yet disclosed by the Taiwanese manufacturer LCDArm, and it will be produced in configurations from 30-inch to 46-inch. I am politely asking these guys to make it available internationally much faster, because the new soccer season is about to start in a few months and I need it! - ALEX ION

Wii Light Gun - shoot it right!

Posted Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu
Wii Light Gun

A new device for Wii gamers was revealed. It is the Wii Light Gun peripheral. The Light Gun has an attachment for the “Wii Remote”. Utilizing this gun you will feel a more realistic shooting session while playing the Duck Hunt. The Nunchuk can be connected too, through the special port.

From the same category, I found the Wii Combat Pack for games like Zelda or Red Steel. The Pack contains a sword and a shield. Obviously, the sword docks the Wiimote, while the Nunchuk is placed in the shield.

Both game packs are available for $19 in online stores. The good part is this devices are really cheap and you won’t need to worry if you find them uninteresting.

Ubuntu announced for Dell Computers

Posted Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

UbuntuDell announced on their blog that Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn was chosen for Dell computers. Their customers will receive a computer with default Ubuntu media including kernel and applications. Dell will configure and install the open-source drivers for hardware if that will be possible. If don’t they will use the closed source drivers like in the Intel wireless cards case or Conexant modems.

Dell has already developed a wiki page at linux.dell.com website. There you could find technical details, information about the problems and fixes. To avoid any problems with the printers, Dell recommends the printers that have PostScript engines in them.

Dell has told that the company is looking to work with the hardware vendors to improve the quality of the associated Linux drivers. Furthermore, Dell announces that they won’t offer any support for audio and video codecs. These codecs aren’t distributed with the Ubuntu OS.

The first computers with Linux OS are: the E520, 1505 and XPS 410. Dell will ship the new Linux based computers starting this Thursday, 5/24.

SANYO Xacti E1 Waterproof Camcorder

Posted Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

Sanyo announces the first waterproof camcorder. The Xacti E1 model will be available next month for $500. We consider the price fair as the camera records directly on the SD/SDHC cards. It works underwater for about an hour, but the maximum depth is just 5 feet. The Sanyo Xacti E1 waterproof camcorder is perfect for beach activities or water parks.

SANYO Xacti E1 Waterproof Camcorder

Besides being a good underwater device, the camera gives you the possibility to use it like a regular camera wherever you want. It is perfect for shooting video or still images using the Advanced Video Codec AVC/H.264. Xacti’s users can record up to 10 hours of 640 x 480 pixels/30fps videos on a 8GB SDHC memory card. The CCD image sensor allows to capture 6 megapixel images and videos and it has 5x optical zoom.

The Xacti E1 features a 2.5″ LCD screen that rotates up to 285 degrees on an axis. The Xacti E1 enables easy playback of recorded video directly on a TV screen. All in all I can say this camera is a true work of art. Pre-orders are available at Amazon.com.

MemoryFrame MF-8104 Premium Costs A Lot But Has Wi-Fi

MemoryFrame MF-8104 Premium Costs A Lot But Has Wi-Fi

Ever thought you will need a digital picture frame that has WiFi connectivity? You don’t know exactly how to use it? It was something new for me too, since there was nothing available, so far, with such functionalities. MemoryFrame MF-8104 Premium is very smart (but very expensive) because it lets you add any picture from Flickr, Windows Live Spaces and Webshots on the 10.4-inch display without paying any subscriptions. Also if you mention that it can play both video and audio files, I think this is a very good gift. The digital frame has a resolution of 800×600 which is great for standard 8×10 picture frames.

I don’t see any big disadvantages, other than the price of $350. It’s already shipping and if you have that kind of money, it’s a great gadget. - ALEX ION
