Fresh release: Nokia 8600 Luna

Posted Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The guys from T3 got a video over the new Nokia 8600 Luna. The luxury black phone has a sliding body, 2 megapixel camera, FM radio and 1GB internal memory. Furthermore, the Luna uses a clear and crisp OLED screen.

As you can see in the movie, the phone looks very business. The front is covered in black glass, while the back is made out of stainless-steel. However, the price (£80) doesn’t inspire the quality for me. The official price for this phone is 700 euros or $940 without the taxes.

Sony micro DAV-IS10 is the invisible home theater

Sony micro DAV-IS10 is the invisible home theater

What I would enjoy to have in my house right now is the new micro DAV-IS10 from Sony. It’s the mini 5.1 home theater system with satellites that aren’t bigger than a baby’s hand. Using the new technology from Sony, Bravia Theater Sync, the whole system is extremely powerful : 5 satellites x 50W and 2-way subwoofer x 100W. That makes a total of 450 watts which is more than my neighbors can bear.

Sony micro DAV-IS10 comes with a compact, single disc DVD/CD player/ receiver with touch-sensitive controls, has a Digital Media Port to enable WiFi and Bluetooth streaming and an iPod docking. This is a good launch for Sony and I am sure the $800 price is not going to be a problem.

Samsung SGH-U308 Made for the 2008 Beijing Olympics

Posted Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 by Alex Ion

The Olympic Games will take place in Beijing next year, but it looks like many sponsor tech companies are going to launch products before the opening. It’s a very good marketing idea so why not do it.
Samsung SGH-U308 also known as Samsung Beijing 2008 was unveiled at the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo 2007. It’s one year before, so give it time to see what features the new SGH-U308 has and what the price is, because this is something they haven’t released yet. Waiting!

Fujifilm FinePix Z5fd Makes A Blogger’s Life Easier ?

Fujifilm FinePix Z5fd Makes A Blogger's Life Easier ?

It’s been some time since we haven’t presented small silver cameras. We love those big ones, semi-professional or for professionals that pop-out every once in a while, but I want all the bloggers know that Fujifilm FinePix Z5fd will help you blog. It’s a 6-megapixel camera, 3x optical zoom that costs $219.

It can shoot at full resolution and then save it for 640×480, crop it or trimming it for blog. However the problem is that on Devicepedia the biggest images we use are 480 pixels wide and it won’t do it. Also from what Gizmodo says, they don’t have file optimization.

Trimming for blog is really easy. You get to transfer the image via Infrared by pressing one button. No Bluetooth. The camera also comes with a smart timestamp that you control by setting the time difference. It also has the Fujifilm Intelligent Face Detection to auto-crop when you take pictures of faces.
The camera is not bad, but for $219 I think I can get a better one. Much better. Regarding to making a blogger’s life better, I am not sure if it will. It wouldn’t help me on Devicepedia, that’s for sure.

Axiotron, a Californian design company has turned the standard off-the-shelf Apple MacBook into a lovable tablet PC. The ModBook is the one and only Mac tablet computer available on the market.

ModBook

The spectacular design backs a powerful computer. The ModBook runs the Mac OS X 10.4 and is powered by a 2.0GHz/2.16GHz Core 2 Duo processor. The standard version includes a 80GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive, while the pro model has a 120GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive. Both models use the 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, the 802.11g Wi-Fi and are Bluetooth compatible.

All the specs I’ve written about are present at MacBooks too. In addition, Axiotron brings the AnyViewâ„¢ 13.3″ Wide Screen, ForceGlassâ„¢ screen and camera cover, the WACOM Penabled Digitizer (512 levels of pressure sensitivity) and Axiotron Digitizer Pen. Also, you have the option to purchase a built-in GPS module, which is included at the pro ModBooks. The retail prices are $2,279.00 and $2,579.00 respectively.

Posted Monday, May 28th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

After we presented you the thinnest display in the world, now we will introduce you the The World’s Thinnest Notebook. How did Intel manage to create such a laptop? Intel wanted a fashionable notebook equipped with the newest technologies and capable of impressive performances. The challenge was launched and Intel’s engineers in collaboration with Ziba Design have created the prototype model.

 Intel Mobile Metro Notebook

The result was called Intel Mobile Metro Notebook. At 2.25 pounds and less than 0.7 thick, the Metro Notebook is the thinnest in the whole world. The prototype laptop will have WiFi, EVDO and WiMAX wireless technologies. A flash memory hard drive will help you to store your precious data. The battery is said to lasts 14 hours.

“It’s like jewelry,” said Omer Kotzer, a creative director at Ziba. The Metro Notebook is a piece of art. The materials used inspire high quality and coolness. It is made of champagne-colored magnesium with gold accents. Furthermore, the design is completed by the diary-like folder that attaches to the laptop via magnets. The folder will be produced in many colors, so the laptop will become a fashion accessory. Also the folder will function as a wireless charger. Besides, it features a display that could show a picture, a calendar or the tasks for the day. No price was communicated yet.

NTT DoCoMo Making Phones for Doctors

Posted Monday, May 28th, 2007 by Alex Ion

For those of you that are doctors or even nurses, there is a rumor saying that NTT DoCoMo is creating a targeted mobile phone for you. It’s supposed to use the DoCoMo 3G FOMA structure to access the medical records database whenever they need to consult someone on the phone. I am not sure how this is going to happen. Will the records be on the phones memory? What if you lose your phone? That’s sensitive data. However if it’s not than it means you will access the medical records from the hospital directly from your phone. How secure is that?

I may not be a fan of the idea but if it’s going to go worldwide (which I don’t think it will) you’d better think of other niches that may use it, like lawyers to offer phone consultations.

BlackBerry 8830 World Edition costs $299 or $199 at Verizon

Posted Monday, May 28th, 2007 by Alex Ion

One month ago we said that BlackBerry 8830 World Edition will retail in stores on May 28th for $299. Is that right? Kind of. The price is $399 for a two years service and and you get an online rebate of $100. Makes it $299. But wait from what I see they will have another $100 Mail-in rebate. It’s been a few years since I finished school but that makes it $199, right?

Check the deal at Verizon. It’s not bad at all to get it at $199. (thanks to Kevin for seeing the mail-in rebate)
