LG powers the VW Beetle MP3 player

Posted Thursday, April 26th, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The MP3 player was presented at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show in VW booth. The music player produced by LG Electronics and inspired by VW Beetle comes in three colors like the car: Salsa Red, Shadow Blue, and Sunflower Yellow. The VW badge stays in the front announcing the branded MP3 player.

VW Beetle MP3 playerThere are not so many details about this player. It features a 2.4″ touchscreen LCD. We suppose it’s a touchscreen because the LG player doesn’t feature any buttons. It is produced in two variants of 2GB and 4GB, respectively. The MP3 player has aluminum case. The battery is said to last around 20 hours of music playing.

Pricing and availability weren’t announced yet. Probably LG and Volkswagen are developing their marketing strategy right now. We will come back with new info as soon as we get. - MIHNEA BOIANGIU

AT&T selling iPhone to enterprises : reasons not to !

Posted Thursday, April 26th, 2007 by Alex Ion

AT&T selling iPhone to enterprisesIt looks like AT&T, that recently acquired Cingular, the company that will market the iPhone when it’s released, works hard to ensure the backend of its own systems to be able to sell it to enterprises. This however is still something not officially confirmed since we don’t have anyone from AT&T saying it out loud, only a spoke man under anonymity.

However if this is true it’s not going to look good. Mobile phones marketing gurus are against the proposal and their reasons are reasonable:

1. We all know how Mac computers are not a standard be it for companies or home use, and that’s because people are close-mouthed to use it widely. This is the first phone they will launch and targeting the wrong clients would put it in disgrace.

2. For business it has a few shortcomings like “no removable battery” and that is a must if we think that the new iPhone has multiple processors and will eat lots and lots of Volts.

3. Dialing and browsing with your finger only, because of the touchscreen, you cannot think this is good for business. Could you dial while driving?

4. Running OS X, will not give the option of writing new applications for the company because you need an open OS. This doesn’t happen with Windows Mobile or Symbian, therefore enterprises will move to BlackBerry or other Windows Mobile phones.

5. Why would a company buy its employee a mobile phone with plenty of storage for their digital music collections? Do I want him focused on Eminem and Beyonce or on the business?

Waiting to see if AT&T is really preparing for enterprises or not, because the reasons above really make a good case against the idea. - ALEX ION

CF-to-SATA Hard Drive Adapter Is What I Need

Posted Thursday, April 26th, 2007 by Alex Ion

I’ve been thinking that my 2 years old laptop (it’s a good one, don’t laugh at it) could use a new hard drive because I am going to buy myself the new Sony H9 when it releases, and those pictures are going to be pretty big.

CF-to-SATA Hard Drive Adapter

The CF-to-SATA adapter is the perfect solution. Just heard about it on Engadget and I think it rocks. You get to use any type of compact flash into the CF-to-SATA hard drive adapter and then connect it to your laptop just like a normal 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. The compact flash is seen like an ordinary drive and you can make it bootable if you need to install your system on, be it Windows, OS X or Linux.

Two more things I need to say. It supports DMA and Ultra DMA modes and only costs $35.99 if you think that a CompactFlash media is shock resistant and a low power consumer. I might buy one just now to test it and post the review here. - ALEX ION
