Apple & Cisco Make Peace Over The iPhone

Posted Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

Apple and Cisco have announced earlier today they have reached an agreement over the iPhone trade mark. This is a great news Apple's iPhonefor the iPhone fans who were afraid Apple’s product might be delayed due to legal issues.

Details are scarce but the press releases state the both companies will be using the iPhone brand for their products and they “will explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications“. The true sense of this last statement is unclear for the moment and we don’t know what kind of cooperation the two companies have in mind as further details of the agreement are confidential, but rumor has it that Cisco insisted that Apple should add interoperability between the two products.

However, one thing is for sure, the path is now clear for the iPhone release and there are no more obstacles for the much awaited product.

The MF4 Player

Posted Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

A-DATA MF4 MM3 PlayerAt a first glance, A-DATA’s MF4 seems to be just a regular portable music player with included support for MP3 and WMA audio files and a small digital display. However this device’s storage capacity of just 128 MB will not recommend it for the hardcore music fan if you wouldn’t take into consideration the included SD/MMC expansion slot. But when you think that with an extra memory card you can add up to 2 GB of storage capacity and you also get a card reader things might change.
Adding memory card slots in mobile devices proved to be a success as users can now increase the initial storage capacity of any product benefiting from this technology. I think the near future will bring even more such devices as including a card expansion slot is not at all expensive and the benefits it adds clearly surpass the cost.

New AMD Processors Hit The Market

Posted Wednesday, February 21st, 2007 by Marius Trusculescu

The AMD64 family of processors just got bigger with the introduction of two new single-core CPU’s (the 3500+ and 3800+ ) and the dual-core Athlon 64 X2 6000+. Based on the 65nm technology, the new single-core AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and 3800+ are targeted at providing better performance-per-watt as they require just 45 W.

On the other hand the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is a direct competitor for the most powerful Intel processors on the market. However, the new AMD processor fails to beat the highest ranked Intel counterpart in performance but it might prove a worthy competitor if we take into consideration the prices and the performance-per-watt AMD achieves.

As for the availability, the new processors have already been released on the market at prices of $88 and $93 for the 3500+, respectively 3800+, while the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is priced at $464. (All the prices are for 1000 units orders.)

O2 XDA Orbit review

Posted Wednesday, February 21st, 2007 by Mihnea Boiangiu

The XDA Orbit is a Pocket PC. It is the first XDA model to come with built-in GPS and bundled navigation software. The smartphone is designed by O2 and it runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0. Its design is really impressive. The XDA Orbit is slim and stylish, but at the same time sophisticated. Like many others Pocket PCs, the Orbit has a big 2.8″ TFT LCD touchscreen. The O2 XDA Orbit is the best companion for business users, as it weights only 129g. That means quite well for a handheld with so many capabilities.

O2 XDA Orbit

But lets talk about its performance. The Quad-band device supports GPRS. It has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which means you can search for hotspots to check your email. The Orbit comes with Outlook email client. Regarding the multimedia options, the device features MP3 player, FM tuner, 2 megapixel camera and Java applications. The excellent CoPilot software from ALK will enhance the GPS performances of Orbit Pocket PC. I need to mention the trackball, which is particularly good. The O2 XDA Orbit has 128 ROM memory and supports SD cards. The battery provides approximately 5 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of standby time. The price depends on the monthly contract in O2 network.
